I did a search of the forum but did not find a thread on this topic.

Has any used or is anyone using an OBD Data Logger?

I am looking for a data logger that allows me to export data to a computer for analysis (ie - monitor performance trends).

Requirements are simple.

1. Must have a reasonable sample rate (every second)
2. Must record important parameters such as odometer, speedometer, MAF, A/F, timing, etc.
3. Ability to export data in a raw/text format for analysis.
4. Must be standalone (I do not want to have to hook up to computer realtime to collect data.
5. GPS would be nice but not necessary.


Purpose: review data monthly to look for significant changes in mpg, evaluate commuting routes, monitor performance trends for potential issues.

Yes, in addition to loving my Toyota I am a data analysis geek (aka - statistician).

Any ideas/recommendations welcome.

Scan tool for base line data

I have an equus scan tool that acquires the parameters you are interested in at one Hz. It has several trigering options. I don't remember the memory depth. I have used the tool for debug so getting some base line data could be useful once an issue arises. Thanks for the idea...

LOL...I was having flashbacks of my 6 Sigma training...and some people told me that I could never apply it in the "real world"
Just a suggestion, but altitude and air temp would influence the data, especially something like a Gage R&R if you are going that route...

Too funny. I am, in fact, a certified Six Sigma Black Belt. I have visions of many SPC Charts being used to stop the process in case of a statistically significant event.

Gauge R&R is a slighty more effort than I am willing to offer. Trend analysis and control charts are more than sufficient (aka - overkill).

Sorry, it must have been my mentality of over analysis (just had a case of scope creep) imp: maybe it is because I am a lowly Certified Green Belt lol. Anyway, I am interested in the ability to track this data if anyone has a tool that could be easily implemented. Obviously, we both know that Toyota is a corporation that has the same vision as us. However, they do not share the data we desire and so they leave it up to us...Correct me if I am wrong, but the onboard computer tracks this but we need a way of extracting it into data we can use.
