Daystar 2.5/1.5 leveling & reverse rake??

I installed this kit about a month ago and am very happy with the lift and ride quality (2014 Limited - Xreas). The only issue I have seen is a slight reverse rake. On a perfectly level surface, the front-end sits a 1/4 taller than the rear. Obviously when I hook-up my utility trailer the rake is greatly increased.

Is anyone else having this issue? Any chance I somehow installed the kit incorrectly? Is there a quick/easy solution to raise to rear? Like FJ springs or something?

Unfortunately, the Daystar "2.5/1.5" kit is really more like a "3.25/1.5" kit. The front spacer is simply too thick to give only a 2.5" lift. I don't know why they sell it that way.

When I received mine, I measure the front spacer at about 1.875 inches thick. There is a multiplication factor of 1.8 due to suspension geometry, so that gives a bit over 3.25 inches of lift. Maybe they expect some compression and are compensating for that.

At any rate, the result was, at full droop, my CV axles were locked up. I decided that was unacceptable, so I took the spacers to the band saw and trimmed them down to 1.5 inches thick. My CV's run fine now, the lift is 2.5 inches like I wanted, and the truck looks and drives great.
 
Thanks for the info. Too bad it worked out this way. I really don't feel like ripping it all apart after I feel like I just did it. I might just wait a couple months and see if the weight of the front-end makes it settle.
 
not sure where you get 3.25" from. I ran it on my old runner and it was spot on. it did look like it had reverse rake, but if you measure at the frame rails it is almost dead level.

I was going to say the exact same thing and wait for it to settle a bit more. I've heard of people installing a leveling kit and after several weeks the front lowers like 0.25" from initial install height.

Another option would be to purchase a 2" rear leveling kit since the rear is much cheaper and easier to install. 2" in the rear might be your solution to leveling all 4 corners.

Here's a side shot of my rig with Toytec 2.5" front leveling spacers and Cornfed 1" rear leveling spacers. It's pretty level even with a 1" rear

I just put mine on and it's definitely not a reverse rack. Did you make sure your struts where put back right and you didn't change the orientation of your springs in the back?

Not the best photo but you can tell it's not nose high at least.

BTW, this was the top of strut spacer lift (new one).

What is level?
Are we looking at
  • the wheel wells relative to the ground?
  • the wheel wells relative to the tire?
  • the running boards level to the ground?

The rear wheel well look higher than the front.
The rear tire-wheel well gap looks larger than the front.
The running boards look like they rake up a bit in the front.

Could just be the angle of the picture too.

Thanks for the pic help. I'm not sure if the rear springs can even be installed upside down due to the bump stops. Your lift looks nice and level though...

Actually I was wondering if you could have turned the front shock around or something. Not sure if it would change the height but I was very careful to align things back the way they were to begin with. I marked everything with chalk lines.

Might take a quick look and see where the XREAS line goes into the shock. I THINK mine is closest to the brake.
 
I just got the 2.5"/1" Cornfed spacers installed on Thursday night thanks to my brother and his mechanical ability. I think it has a bit of reverse rake. I may end up ordering the 2" rear.

I may end up ordering the 2" rear.

Also check it on dead level ground with nothing loaded and all tires equally inflated.

Drive it a few hundred miles and see what it looks like. The springs will settle and it may end up "level" what ever that means.

Personally I like a bit of rake for when you load it up.
 
I don't mind a bit of rake when loaded. But from my driving and just looking at it with 75 miles on it so far-it definitely sits a bit nose-high. I pull my utility trailer with JD X738 and edgers/weed wacker/chainsaw and misc fuel and what not. 5.5'x10 steel utility trailer and all the cargo is about 2250# and about 175-200 lbs of tongue weight. It definitely has reverse rake with that load which can be expected. At least the rear is a much easier fix than the front and only took about 45 mins to put the rears in.

I've thought about doing this exact thing.... How hard was it? Did the blade want to wonder at all?

It's been 5 months for me and there is still a slight reverse rake. We are headed to Gulf Shores to camp and I measured the difference from tire to fender and its right at 3/4"... that is with heavy camping gear on a hitch carrier... without gear, Im guessing 1/4-1/2"...

I've watched my wife drive off in it and you can definitely tell there is a reverse rake when you give it some gas. I know for sure I did not install the rear incorrectly.
 
Wasn't hard at all. Just takes the same care you would use with making any precision cut. Use a fence and go slow. The rubber/plastic cuts easily.

You may also have to trim the stud extensions. I used an angle grinder and cutoff wheel for that. A hacksaw would also work but take longer.
 
I have the same daystar kit installed for about a year now on my 16’ LE and there’s definitely a rake to it. I wonder if daystar sell a 2 inch lift for the rear?
