Dead battery scrambled locks and second seat windows

Yes, I searched before posting.

Came home last night, hit my son's bike, checked it out, and then somehow left the keys in ignition. Today battery was bone dead, so I charged it up some, started it, went to Home Depot. Rear windows wouldn't go up. both sides. Go in the back, using switch on rear door, rear window does go up, so motor good, fuse good. Then go in store, came back, doors do not unlock. Only, they didn't lock in the first place either. Dang. Tried second remote when I got home, nothing either.

So sure looks like something got scrambled. Any hints? I do have Techstream, haven't used it in a while.

maybe your battery isn't supplying enough voltage to the vehicle's systems?? get the battery tested at your local auto zone. Our crappy lead acid batteries can get damaged if completely discharged.

When the battery went dead, looks like the 'Main body ECU Compu Network' lost it's factory settings; not a big deal! First thing I'd do is Disconnect the NEG battery terminal and leave it disconnected for a minimum of four hrs.

This is to drain the ECU circuit so it reverts back to it's factory settings (you can do that now if convenient)! Re-connect the cable after ecu has reset and you should be good! I've done this many times with desired results 90% of the time; the battery's charge should be adequate now or it wouldn't start!

Now the Locks, windows & key fob should work as they were designed to... (you WILL need to "Circle calibrate" the compass after the reset) any trouble, post back and we'll shoot the symptoms further and see what else needs to be checked (No worries!)! 'Best to you',

If the 4Runner is anything like the GX 470, after I changed the battery of my GX 470 that I used to own, I had to roll down the windows completely before they can roll up. It’s some kind of calibration.

Yes.

After a battery totally dead, the step were

- charge the battery up (whatever method)

- disconnect for four hours

- reconnect.

Then I had to fix the time and the compass. You really need the owner's manual to do a good job, you need to look on a map and see what magnetic zone you are in. The default was 06, Chicago was 10. I have a 2013 Trail, there was something about if you had no crawl control do a) , had, do b), but they were the same. Had to put the parking lights on, then, press and hold Mode button to pick the zone. I get tricked trying to do the deviation, you have to press AND HOLD the Mode button a second time before you drive in a circle, other wise you change the zone down one.

Side issue, I got the Maint Req light reset, the instructions I had were not for a 2013. Since I had the manual open...

Second side issue, fixed the OBD2 connector I broke it with a long ELM327. Holy sh!t cakes, if buying from Toyota you have to buy the some whole assembly that is 1000+. Turns out I found some other plastic fingers, I just clipped them a bit shorter and voila, the thing stays in. Illinois smog tester said don't come back with that thing broken.

During your post (above), I was in 'total suspense' to know if the advice I shared with you got the Locks, windows & key fob working(?)! Our "Compass" instruments will require a 'Circle calibration' whenever we see a 'Blinking' Dot e.g. .N before the direction icon!

With the parking lights on, holding the Mode button for 2 sec allows you to place yourself in the proper geographical (domestic) zone. Holding the mode button a second time gives you the okay to drive the vehicle in some sort of a circle; even driving around the block, if done in under 2 minutes will accomplish an accurate compass calibration.

I've done this anytime I've needed to disconnect the battery for extended periods of time... not an issue; and the Trail Edition calibration DOES differ 'slightly' from the SR5 and Limited trims!
