Dealer can't figure out why Traction light is stuck on

2015 4Runner Trail. Looking to see if anyone has had this happen.

Here is the chain of events:

3 years no problems all recommended service at dealer etc.

Replaced Brake pads at dealer about 4 months ago.

3 months ago - Rare rain storm in Los Angeles - Traction Control, ABS and blinking Multi Terrain Light all come on during normal driving. Battery disconnect and restart doesn't clear it. Take it to dealer. They clear the codes and it doesn't come back.

4 days ago - During rain driving all the lights come on again. Take it to dealer. They clear any codes, but the lights will not go off. They have had it for 2 days running through all the wiring and still haven't figured it out. At one point they started to suggest it could be the wiring from my frontrunner light bar that may have messed things up haha. They have the dash off and the multi terrain switches disconnected etc. Can't find anything.

Anyone have this happen? I have asked them to check ABS sensors, brake master cylinder sensors, speed sensors etc. They seem to have no answers so I'm hoping someone here has experienced this and might have an idea.

Help me T4R you are my only hope.

I believe they have done that already. But I am going to mention it again in the morning to confirm.

Find another dealer or a shop that specializes in Toyota. Anyone can turn a wrench very few can diagnose.

My buddies dealership where he is a senior mechanic there told me most of his colleagues are useless and borderline retarded. He cant even vouche for his own shop. Just robots pulling wrenches and many of them cant even do that right and strip bolts.

Yeah, sadly this Toyota dealership has been the best with service in the past. And it's a warranty issue so I'm reluctant to take it to a local shop when I need it to be fixed under warranty. If they can't figure it out today, i'm going to pull it and take it to Cabe in Long Beach even though it's an hour away, they have the best service for Toyota in the greater Los Angeles area.

Toyota dealers have access to Toyota Technical Field Specialists. They work out of regional offices around the country. There should be one or more of these nearby in the LA area.
These are the go-to people dealers use when they are stuck with an issue.
The dealer I bought my Tacoma from had to bring in one of these people when they were stuck working an issue on my truck.
As mentioned above, the majority of people who work on cars in dealerships are incompetent.

I assume they found codes if they are clearing codes. What were the codes? Clearing codes doesn't fix anything. Find out what the codes were/are and maybe we can make a better guess.

ya that is normal .. replace parts at your expense..

You need a new tech or dealer with an experienced electrical diagnostic tech. Any dealer that cleared your codes and sent you on your way is crap.

I was a parts manager at a large Toyota dealer and we only had 2 techs that were really capable of hard to find electronic grimlens.

Brake and abs lights on solid
Traction control icon lit solid
Multi terrain icon flashing
4wd icon flashing
4lo flashing

I hooked up to techstream and checked abs menu
There were 2 faults right rear abs sensor fail and right rear abs sensor short

Removed the sensor and metered it (read 1600ohm) so its good
It was wet though... cleaned everything and replaced it.. drove up the street and all lights cleared..

Went back to techstream and cleared the codes

Look to see if you have water coming down the wire and dripping inside the firewall. There is a connector just under the firewall grommet (inside) that faces up. If water meets that connector (ABS/dash plug) then you will experience flashing lights and spazzy tach readings. Check for moisture or dripping when wet.

Check all your ABS lines they might be messed up or pinched or something. That is usually the case when lights like that are acting up. You might need to replace wires and you can get guards for them from SDHQ they just came out with some if that is the case. If you don't know how to check them just take it to the dealer and have them check it if they haven't checked it already!

I had this happen to me. Turned out it was the A.D.D. Water had gotten in and rusted everything out. I think I posted about it in my build page.

Similar situation for me. I could clear it and it would come right back...

Mine wouldnt engage in 4wd (it would just blink).

Trac light went on
Check engine light was on.

Turned out to be a bad wheel bearing in the rear passenger. Warrantied.
