Dealer says can't install lift on my 2015 because of Auto Leveling

its to set the base point for the traction/stability control and the roll yaw sensor. if you were to lift your truck and not reset it it could lead to the stability system being very touchy and over reactive in normal driving.

Pretty much what I thought. I will be promptly coming back to this thread tomorrow.

It calibrates the 0 point of the vehicle. This is used for stability control, Downhill assist, and anti-roll nannies. If you take a high G corner in your 4r you will feel it kick in. Usually the the inside front brake will pulse. It's a very odd and scary sensation. If you don't know it's coming, you may react and make things worse. I recommend that everyone try to get a feel for it.

After you lift a vehicle the zero point gets screwed up, becomes more sensitive, and it kicks in way more often than it should.

The calibration basically tells the vehicle where level is, but the anti-roll algorithms still assumes a specific ride height and suspension characteristics

I still have not really figured out exactly what makes it kick in. I've taken some very hard corners and not had it do anything. But there are a few roads I drive where it will kick in on S curves. The algorithm basically thinks you are swerving at high speed....

Correct. It calibrates the new "level" or "Zero" of the vehicle and that is what all sensors (yaw, pitch, accelerometer, etc) base their readings from. As far as when the VSC starts to override operator input it depends on what the operator is doing at the time. For example, the throttle cannot be r e t a r d e d by the VSC if the driver is not applying the throttle. Conversely braking cannot be selectively applied if the driver is not braking. Near as I can tell if you are coasting (neither applying the throttle or brake), either around a corner or in slick snow the VSC does not do anything because there is nothing to modify! Now if you touch the brakes of throttle THEN it has something to work with and will modify the signal accordingly.

I'm interested to hear the outcome of the OP's conversation with the Service Manager at their dealer.

No luck, he was seen only minutes before by my service writer, then after being paged service writer gets a text, he tells me the manager is at Lowes. Right in front of me, unbelievable.

I asked them to look up the VIN and see that I have KDSS and not rear auto leveling, they do, and see KDSS, service writer makes the verbal assumption that KDSS must do the same thing. No memo or bulletin produced! I have the 4R safe at home.

install that shit yourself, or trade it bin on a TRD PRO. They don't have auto leveling lol

Awesome!! What morons! Did they charge you anything?

You should seriously do yourself a favor and DIY. Rent some spring compressors from Autozone for free and finish the job yourself. It is not that hard.

Not entirely true, in my case anyway. I have attempted to do the manual ZPC on my own and the dealer has attempted it twice. My VSC still kicks in while going moderate speeds around corners and on dry pavement. I can be coasting and the brakes still kick in independently. If I am towing my jet ski trailer, the push from the rear in corners causes it to brake more aggressively. It sucks but I have learned to expect it and deal with it.
Blue15 , I would not expect a dealer to know how to properly perform a Zero Point Calibration just as much as I would not trust them to know how to lift my rig.

My case above is with ZPC done.
So it thinks you are sliding and is trying to fix it. There was a thread a few years ago and the guy tried several times, had the dealer try and nothing. He finally tried "one more time" before getting rid of it and it worked. Seems there was one step he had been leaving out every time. If I can remember the thread I will post a link.

Yea, I recall that thread from way back when I initially tried figuring out my ZPC issue. I think he was forgetting the Crawl Control procedure IIRC. I remember going through the entire procedure exactly how it said. I even managed to be Xmas tree dash light free. However, the calibration is still off.

Not sure what the Techstream procedure entails, but my local dealer is obviously not familiar with how to do it correctly because it is still overactive.

No charge.

They did offer to wash my clean car, so I could drive it home in the pouring rain?

I had a friend help me install a lift/level on my 08 Trailblazer a few years back, sadly it's beyond my mechanical skill level.

I was under the impression that the entire ZPC can be done with TIS Techstream. I was going to finally get around to do the calibration today, so any info on this case would be helpful.

It can be, just not sure of the procedure.

My offer still stands, but I understand if you don't want to make the 4 hour trek down here.

ZPC is done using the techstream and it's super easy. Typically it never needs to be done unless you fully change position of the yaw rate sensor that is located under the pocket under the radio. (I moved mine to add my DVD player).

@OP I believe some good can be gleaned from most everything. Yeah, they wasted some of your time, but look on the bright side; at least those monkeys knew enough stop before they effed up your new 4R. The techs were smarter than the service writer.

I'd be inclined to make them take back the parts, and buy them from whomever ends up with your work.

"Auto leveling" .... wow!

I've never understood why some dealers are fine with doing just about anything and some will get testy if you want to put a different size tire on the vehicle.

The KDSS is a mysterious black box to just about every Toyota and Lexus dealer, tho.

I think you can count on on two hands who has the recharging tools, and one one hand on those who know how to use it.

Sure is frustrating.

Called Randys off road in Marysville, WA seems they can do it. But can't do the zero point calibrating. If even needed for the 1.75 setting.

They will overcharge you. The quoted me $750! I know they are reputable but damn...

If you want, I can ask my buddy if he will give you the same deal he gave me from his shop. He charged $200 and that was installed with an alignment.
