Dealership Oil Change

Always check your oil after someone else "changes" it.

So i take my 2011 4runner in for it's first 5,000 mile check and to have the oil changed, tires rotated, etc.

Even though my maintenance guide says change the synthetic oil every 10,000, i've been pulling my boat and I said change it at 5,000. The manager agreed. I said change it even if it means having to pay for the oil change.

So I get home and and check my oil (always do). This is supposed to be new 0w-20 synthetic oil. what do you think?

I've called the service department and they are going to fix the problem and didn't try to argue. Still, anyone think that dealerships aren't trying to screw you and the manufacturing charging them for warranty work at the same time?

Btw. My paper wok did say "performed 10ksyn oil change. Installed 6.6 qts syn oil. Installed Filter element."

just pisses me off. But it's free, and syn oil cost so damn much i'm going to drive back to have them do it right. And they sad thing is they have an amazing service department (appearance, layout, etc). I guess they pay for it by shorting people.....

Anyone else ever had issues with Dealerships shorting you on scheduled or routine service work?

side note: I love my 4runner :)

I bring my vehicles to a local 'oil change' place for servicing (I know, I've heard all of the stories). I stay in the work area and watch them like a hawk as the service is being performed (try that in a dealership service area). I ask questions too.

So far I've never had a problem with wrong oil, no oil, or too much/little oil in the vehicle. Same thing for the filter element.

I swear everytime I get a new vehicle I think "Redesper, just have the oil changed this time around".

Then I see something that reminds me why I do it myself. Hope they get you fixed up reds10.

Im fairly new to this board and new to toyota. With regard to your oil. They may have actually changed it correctly the first time. Now, before everyone attacks me I have say that I have not changed the oil in my 2010 4Runner for myself....yet. Planning to begin changing myself once the warranty expires. Like you I tow with my rig as well as drive many miles per month on the beach here in southeast NC. Check out this video particularly 0:55-1:10. Seems like the new 0w-20 is very dark when new. With that said they may have changed your oil as they were supposed to.

I had a pretty bad experience with my first o/c and I complained to Toyota. The second one was about 3 weeks ago and all seemed to go well. I also found the new oil to be slightly darker than the first change but not as dark as the OP's. The dealership tells me that Mobil is now the new supplier so it is possible the oil comes darker. I haven't done the research, guess I'm just hopin'...

Edit: here's a pic of my oil. 11k on the clock. 1000 miles since the service...
...in other words, you got hosed.
