I must say, i used to think if i Ever debadge my ride, it will look like that it just came out of body shop (or been in an collision) but ur rig looks tight.

I would leave a big V8 in the back, just to scare other drivers,

I have a 98 and partially debadged the back. I took off Toyota and SR5 leaving 4runner and the yota symbol. I was wondering about removing the 4runner part. I was thinking about taking that off and getting the license plate surround painted to match the body. Or even not painted, I just dont like the huge 4runner badge...is this badge just 3m tape also or are there pins?

Thanks for all the tips...I completely debadged last night and love how it looks. next up, the chrome door handles...can i do anything with these?

I'd be interested in the chrome door handles. I'm looking at picking up a SE and I like the look of the chrome door handles that are standard on the SR5's.
**update** I now HAVE a SE. How much for them handles? ..and they'd fit an '08, right? I don't see a difference.

Not a big fan of de-badging, but it works for some people and can look really sharp with the right colored rig.

I would take off the obvious ones like "Toyota" on the rear, but leave the good ones like 4WD and V8.

Alright, First and foremost, This is completely my fault for not following the write-up on yotatech. I debadged my tr4 over the weekend. After doing a little research many people have said with some gunk removed and elbow grease it is a fairly easy process. I attempted to find the striper wheel at walmart and failed. So I got some tar/bug remover, made by turtle wax and some Goo Gone. Both product stated they were safe on paint. It is my assumption that the use of both products together cause a reaction and now I have runs from the bottom of where the emblem was almost all the way down to the bumper. I'm not sure if the product removed the clear coat or not. What would some suggestions be to get the runs away? I feel like a moron because I didn't wait to do it the correct way. But it's too late for that. Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Go buy a clay bar kit and give that a try. They are like $16. Mothers or Meguires are the best. If that doesn't work you might want to think about getting a small random orbital buffer. I got mine from mother's for around $80, which came with the power polish, and power wax. That would probably get rid of it. Whichever method you have to use, just finish up with a good coat of wax.

If all it takes is the clay bar, you might want to use a sealer/glaze before you wax it, because the clay bars remove EVERYTHING (all wax buildup and contaminants.) Again, Meguires and Mother's are the best.

If you have to go with a buffer, make sure it's a Random Orbital. Anything else will give you swirl marks. Good luck bro.

I highly doubt you damaged the clear. It doesn't melt with application of solvents. What you see is running of dissolved adhesive down the panel. Use some goo gone to wipe it off, followed by non-abrasive rubbing compound and then wax. Skip the clay bar, its job is to pull off surface particles and industrial fallout, and will be a waste of time.

He said the goo gone was part of what made the mark.

And clay bars remove everything including wax, so they help with situations like this, not just to remove the microscopic contaminants that you mentioned, which are the small pieces of metal and other things. Just threw out a suggestion.

My father in law has someone detail his cars every 2 weeks. I think I am just gonna give him $50 and have him clean it up. He does amazing work and he has been doing my father in law's cars for almost 5 years now. plus then I know I won't screw anything up :biggrin2:

I think it depends on the color. The black 4Rs look awesome; I'm not so sure about the others though.

The debadged sides are a definite plus; I think, if you have to have something, a simple color-matched Badge down low on the back would be about it.

For instance, I would take the "4Runner" and find a much smaller "4WD" & "Limited," paint them all to match, and put them on the lower right corner of the gate. I'd also paint the oval Toyota emblem as well.

I debadged mine within a day or two of getting my 4Runner. I have no need to advertise what I'm driving (I also made the dealer remove their stupid branding sticker and took off their license plate frames immediately), let people guess. I like the clean look and ease of cleaning.
