Honestly! I think that as far as the Mayan calendar goes, the poor stone mason probably said something along the lines of, "Screw this, my hands hurt from making the huge freaking calender. It's 1000 years away, when we get to the end, we'll make another" :D
I can understand being concerned about bad cataclysmic events, they happen. They Boy Scouts have it best. "Be Prepared" so go out now, and get all yer stuff, so I don't have to fight you at the cash register when it all goes down :50cal:

I agree they had to stop some where maybe money was short so they laid the worker off they had a 1000 yrs to save money. LOL Don't believe in 2012 but prefer to be prepared for any. It is always good to have a little extra food and water never know what can happen.

... so I'll be spending the few days before and after camping out in the PA mountains. lol. Call me crazy but I'd rather play it safe, ya know?

I can see the headlines now....

"NY man escaping doomsday by camping in PA mountains is attacked and eaten by Sasquatch!"

Do you guys remember all the prophecies for 2000 and 2001 (besides Y2K)? Of the dozens and dozens, it's funny how no one predicted 9/11 huh? I guess they missed that one. Maybe because it only catapulted us (and the entire Western world) into a world war that we're still fighting 9 years later (almost twice as long as WWI or WWII) and changed free countries around the world forever. And of course the thousands of innocent people that were murdered.

I love how they say Nostradamus predicted just about everything that's ever happened, but how come no one finds these vague predictions until after it happened and then "what do ya know" all of a sudden he predicted it all along and we had this info for 1000 years? Have you ever got a warning from anyone before something major happened, like the tsunami in '05 or the earthquake in Haiti this year?? Not me. Besides, I have a problem putting any scientific faith into a culture that still hadn't perfected their underwear yet.

Here's a funny read:
Doomsday: 2000 - Now

Hey, did you guys see the "Penn and Teller Bullshit" episode about 2012? They destroy the whole theory and make you laugh while they do it!

Re: Mayans

No one gives any credence to what the Mayans had to say about anything else in this day and age. Why should ancient prophecies about doomsday incite panic?

End of time scenarios have been exploited by mass media to sell advertising space and movie rights for eons. This is what is happening again.

After the Y2K scare what happened? No one has any idea of when the earth will cease to exist. This is how it always has been and always will be. On 12/12/12 wash your 4Runner, put it in the garage and have a beer. The next day will be the 13th and that too is considered unlucky by many. Life goes on.

Yup. :) I bet it will be an interesting day though, because everyone in the western world is going to be on "edge". Same as on December 31st 1999.

I do specifically remember that my parents filled their bulk fuel tank on the farm with regular unleaded for 79 cents a gallon a couple months before Y2K. Too bad gas isn't that cheap this year.

Possibly. I live on Long Island which is an evacuation nightmare so I'll be spending the few days before and after camping out in the PA mountains. lol. Call me crazy but I'd rather play it safe, ya know?

If you truly believe, then a few days before and a few days after isn't necessary. Just camp out on that one day.

Nostradamus predicted that the Chinese would take over the world in the year 2000. So much for that prediction....although he might be right somewhere down the line, only his timing was off! LOL

But seriously, nobody ever talks about the predictions that didn't come true. It's all BS to me.

I think it's a crock... I also have broken mirrors on a whim and walk under ladders. I know, I'm a madman! :moon:
