December Run: 12/5 Silverado Truck Trail to Hell's Kitchen

I'm in. So what is "Hell's Kitchen" anyway?

Someone in another thread mentioned that the Maple Springs gate has been closed sporatically recently. I was just up there about 2 weekends ago and it was open at that time. I had called the ranger before heading up, and he kinda made it sound like it's rarely closed. But calling ahead of time would still probably be a good idea.
 
Yes, they close the gates during inclement weather. We have no rain in the forecast for a while, so it should be smooth sailing.

We are supposed to have some heavy Santa ana winds by Sunday. I have seen them close the gates and keep them closed during, and in anticipation of, santa ana wind conditions. The ranger station up there on maple Springs is closed this time of year as well iI believe, which might be the reason it takes so long to open them back up.
 
So it's a week away now. Do we have a time yet?

Also, if the Maple Springs gate doesn't open up before next weekend, are we just going to enter from Ortega Hwy? Or cancel?

12/9 Edit: I ran the route yesterday on the XR and it's pretty rough. There was a closed gate towards Indian Truck Trail, and it doesn't look like it'll be open soon. So, instead- lets do a bonus line and take the trail into Corona. We can get Tom's Farms for lunch and take the freeway back or do the trail backwards. It should take about 2 hours from trail head to destination. The trail is in much better condition than the previously planned run, so don't worry if you're 2wd or stock. There will be plenty of photo ops and the weather report makes it look perfect.

Maybe you can re-draw your map to show exactly where we're going now?
I'm a little confused now. :(
 
Why met so early if the trail is only going to take 2hrs to run? Are there any more trails down there to make it a day of trail riding?
 
Guys, I'm not going to be available Saturday morning and it looks like the rain will close the gates. So we're going to have to scrub this one. :happens:
