Decided to upgrade to the 70264 from the 70268. Can I run the two in series?

I have had the 70268 for awhile and between a trip to the mountains last week, and stop and go traffic in super hot TX, I do not think that the smaller cooler is cutting it. I was getting 200+ temps in stop and go traffic yesterday with 105 degrees outside.

Think I will go with the 70264. Any downsides to running it in series with the old cooler?

I don't see why there would be. I doubt the trans temp will be too cool, but anything is possible.

I would personally run the cooler BEFORE radiator so that the trans fluid is returned through the radiator at the expected temp. Fluid that runs too cold can cause shifting issues in automatics.

I went with a trucool 4589 years ago and never had any issues even when towing. I bypassed the in radiator cooler which was fine for my region. The trucool 4589 has a bypass so it won't cool the fluid until it gets warm enough to open the bypass valve and force fluid into the cooler. Rated for 21,000 btu's.

It’s not really a valve. Since it’s a “fin and plate” type they have plates of varying port diameters that as the oil gets hot and thinner it flows through more of the plates. I put that model on the 97 Puppy Hauler.

No problem at all. I upgraded from the 70264 to the 70266. Greater cooling capacity. If I were in TX I would do the same.

You are correct. Valve was the best way I could think to put it in layman's terms. It's self regulating based on fluid viscosity which changes with temperature.

The manufacturer's actually recommend it. It really depends if you get cold winters. If you do get cold winters, run it in series like others mentioned as it helps heat up the fluid. Too cold of fluid and the transmission will not lock up and will lower MPG's and potentially increase wear. If you live in a warm climate like I do then you can bypass. My coldest temperature in the overnights ever is 30 degrees, so not an issue.
