The push bars on police cars are damage multipliers also! A year or two ago some idiot pulled out in front of me while I was on duty, and I almost got stopped on time, but not quite. The guy's Prius barely had a scuff on the paint, and the front end of the Crown Vic I was driving was destroyed. Had it just been a stock Crown Vic bumper it would have only been paint damage also.

Not even remotely the same. The bullbars are bolt on toys. The rambars on the cruiser are for physically hitting cars, pushing them off road or ramming. They are somewhat more "robust" than the Tonka like bullbars some have. :bounce:

The police push bars are only slightly more "robust" (see my picture above). They are really only suited for making a very slow, controlled contact with basically no impact, and basically slowly push with minimal force. Any type of collision will cause it to collapse on itself. The picture above was probably a 5-10 mph impact, just for reference.

These are easy mistakes for our leaders to make. It introduces them to the art of incrementally making stupid mistakes. It's not their money being spent, its ours.

Something I've noticed is that people from the Northeast love their bullbars. I suppose they're worried about cars backing up into them with street parking?

In case anyone is considering one of those cheap bull bars for the purpose of protecting the front bumper in street parking scenarios, I must say in my experience it does very well for that purpose.

I installed a cheap tubular bull bar that I got on eBay for about $100. The tubular stainless steel that the bull bar is made of is relatively thin, and will crush into itself well before the cold steel mounting brackets are affected, meaning that during a low-speed tap or bump, the bull bar will sacrifice itself without affecting the rest of the car (even the bumper).

I even hit a small deer head-on at about 30 mph earlier this year and from what I can tell the deer's head hit the bull bar (dented), then hit the TRD Pro skid plate (bloody, not dented) and also the passenger control arm (bloody & clump of hair). My actual front bumper remains untouched and like new. I plan to wait for a few more dents and then replace with another cheapo bull bar for continued protection.
