Deck plate mod?

I'm gonna do this mod tomorrow. Gonna get the Vortex, on stock pipes for now. I'll upgrade the rest of the exhaust system later. I don't recall seeing a resonator under there, but if it has one. I'll have it removed. I've got the TRD TB gasket coming Tuesday, but I think I'll just modify the stock one, and keep the new for a later date.

haha ya i deffinately burned an 1/8 of a tank in that little stretch, mostly cause I was running really rich but still, that probably didnt make that much of a difference

Have you seen any noticable change in mileage since doing this mod?

if you mean gas mileage than no. I get 20 mpg city right now cause I have a urd map ecu2 system that allow me to control my own air/fuel mixture. On that day I tried to set it on my own for the mountains (you know, new toy an all) which is why I got such bad MPG. I did the map ecu2 about 6 days after i did the full deck plate+ISR+exhaust so I didnt get to see a change in gas mileage. But there wont be. Opening youre beather system (intake+exhaust) just allows air to flow through your engine more freely and giving your engine more oxygen to burn. The only way you could decrease you mpg from modifications is if you do something to the fuel system. Which Im going to do this summer and though I'm gonna love the increase in power, Im betting ill get 12-15 mpg's at best. But we'll see. If you're looking for other cheap and easy mods heres a write up I did last month on my electric fan. this is also a good one cause it takes strain off your engine, thus giving you more power at the wheels. Again not a huge difference but deffinately noticable.

Just ask for a deckplate. Or if they don't understand, an inspection plate. I got a 4", I would have gotten a 5" if they had had it.
 
A marine deckplate, hence the term "Deckplate Mod". The cap screws back in when needed and is gasketed so you can off-road and forge creeks if needed. Open, the airbox will NOT suck in any rain water. I've driven thru some terrible downpours at 70-80 MPH and never got a drop of water in the airbox.

I added a piece of window screen material held on by a large hose clamp on the inside flange of the deckplate inside the airbox. This will help prevent the larger "chunkies" (bugs, leaves, pebbles) from entering the airbox without sacrificing airflow.

wow ron you did a really nice job on that. mines totaly ghetto. and my "deckplate" is actually a piece of plexyglass that takes 4 bolts to hold it on. I didnt have the patience to wait over the weekend to go get an actual deckplate and my hole is way too big anyways:bash: Its a pain in the ass. Nice work :bigok:
 
I was reading about the ISR mod and Dr. Z said that he could induce pinging in his engine by running a lower octane gas than premium. I always run low octane gas because I'm poor and no one has convinced me it's better to use high octane gas... :biggrin2: Has anyone else experienced pinging w/ the ISR mod and low octane gas?
 
I just installed mine today! Finally got around to doing it! I can definitely hear a difference, but i dont think it gave me anymore power. We'll see though. I've only driven like 3 miles with it in. And I would post pics, but im pretty sure everyone knows what it looks like :D
 
i dont have the isr mod, but just a heads up for the utahns, low grade gas here is 85 octane where as everywhere else is 87 stupid utah.

we are supposed to be running 87 factory tho.
 
Pinging shouldn't be an issue in the winter time as much as in the summer months. This write up on the ISR mod bothered me in a few ways. 1st: I am not buying that he has not noticed any change in his gas mileage. He is idling higher at lights and the fuel trim numbers are clearly up from -1.6 to +3.9. Hence higher amounts of fuel being added to the cylinders. Secondly, he says that his timing is advanced. This may be true at idle speeds, but if you look at the screen shots closely, when he is at 2450 RPM at all 3 levels of adjustment, his timing values are the same. But I would be interested to know what your mod does for you in the long run .

I was at Walmart looking for sensor sensitive silicone, and tried to find a hose clamp like the one you have RonMAIDEN, but no luck. Where can I pick one up?
 
I just did mine on friday and i can definitely tell a difference in the sound of the engine, it's got a deeper sound when accelerating hard which sounds awesome :bigok:. I can tell it's got better throttle response but idk about a the hp gain. Oh and it's a 4 1/2 inch deckplate.
