Deck plate mod?

i dont have the isr mod, but just a heads up for the utahns, low grade gas here is 85 octane where as everywhere else is 87 stupid utah.

we are supposed to be running 87 factory tho.

The altitude makes it harder to combust the gas so they drop the octane. The 85 is really like 87, the 91 they sell will be like 93.

I generally run 85 and the couple times a year 87 but never notice a difference just the price.

I have to run 91 octane and no, ootah isnt the only state that gas is 85, 87 and 91, Colorado does too

i know this may sound dumb of me but i thought i would ask...

what is the real purpose of the deckplate piece that gets screwed in? to me it looks like its just a hole to let more air in? so is it necessary to have that piece? or could you just have the hole there?

okay so i just looked up someting might have answered my own question but would like to have someone clear it for me still

but the reason for the ring you install is so you can cover it with the water tight cap, correct?

but i could just have the whole until i get the deckplate to put in, yeahh? haha

i didnt know there was a cap to the deckplate which threw me off i think...

Correct, if you are driving in very wet off road conditions you just screw it back in and it makes it water tight again, its a very simple and effective mod.

so i would be fine if i wanted to drill out the hole and drive around if its not too rainy or muddy or what not, until i can find a deckplate?

Yes, the ring is for the cap and the cap is to close off the box , so you can go water crossing as good as factory.

Having the "screw in piece" gives you the option of going back to stock. It's also good for car washes and if you are going in deep water/mud. Just screw that bad boy back in and no water gets in there. By the way... you 4runner looks sick!!:cheers:

I leave mine out, unless I'm in an extremely dusty area ( following someone on a dirt road). In fact, I went througha huge mud hole today. I had mud all over my engine, but none in my air filter.
