Deckplate mod on a 4cyl?

Has anyone on here done the deckplate mod for a 4cyl? There is one thread I have found and it was from 2008. A little outdated if you ask me..

Just wondering what people's thoughts are on doing it to a 4cyl. I have a K&N filter in the stock housing, but just wondering if it is worth doing the deckplate mod also.

I know there is tons of back and forth about this mod so don't get all mad at me lol. Also heard it makes a pretty cool sound when open? Is this true? Would love for it to sound bad a$$.

Okay thank you, is the ISR mod the same for 4 cyl and V6's? So could I just follow a write up on a V6?

I didn't do the deckplate mod on mine, but instead installed a K&N intake years ago. For about $300 (new), all you get is a nice sound (if you care most about the sound, this is the best option) and a bit more top-end power in exchange for a small loss of low-end torque and slightly lower gas mileage. I can only assume that the deckplate mod will do the same, but from what I know, because of the ribs on the 3RZ airbox, it is much more difficult to do.

As others have said, the ISR mod will increase the induction noise, but on the 3RZ, you have to chop up the factory intake tube IIRC.

Personally, I would leave it stock unless you are installing some sort of forced induction or have a heavily modified engine (cammed, ported head, long-tube headers, etc). The stock intake does a more-than-adequate job of feeding the engine enough air, so unless you are really after the sound, it is a waste of time and money IMO.

I did a cheap CAI on my 2wd truck and it did help with higher end power but lower end was diminished a bit. For a bigger rig like a 4runner, it's not worth switching.

I just did the ISR to clean up/ make more room in the engine bay, didn't change anything really since I didn't do anything to the airbox.

These intake mods don't do much. All you are really doing is cutting up some pricey Toyota plastic to make your 4Runner louder.
