I used to take my 75 Coupe Deville through the horse trails where I grew up. 500 cubic inches of Caddy power! I never got stuck & used to bang a lot of chicks back there too
I used to change the oil like twice a year. Usually before a road trip camping.

So I was doing a little trail run with my buddies in the car...I wanted to show off a little, show them that all the time and money I've spent on my car has been worth it. And to went great, at first, after about 45 minutes of dicking around in some fields in Mexico, I decided to find my way back to the trail. This trail was very sneaky though because I couldn't find it. Unfortunately, I wasn't really paying close attention to what was right ahead of me, and pond popped out of nowhere right in front of me, I tried to stop but it was to no avail, I went headfirst into the pond And go stuck in water that was up to my doors, water started slowly leaking in until I had standing water all over my carpet, car still ran and after about 3 hours of hand winching with a come along, and yanking with my buddies Tacoma we got it out. Good news is the car runs mint, bad news is my carpet is wet and smells like the swampiest of ass. Also none of my windows roll down except for the driver window. So I pulled all the carpet out and tomorrow am taking it to power wash it, then I'm going to let it air dry and hopefully the smell will leave with the dirt
Unfortunately it was also pouring out and I didn't get any pictures of the whole incident but hopefully my description provides good imagery for you to visualize this debauchery

Yeah.. that IS deep. Holy crap. Is there a fine line for the usefulness of a snorkel where water and mud don't get into the cabin? I see plenty of snorkel kits mounted on vehicles but hardly anyone talks about other aspects of keeping water out of the cabin, or keeping things like the starter operational whilst fording.
I used to love the mud when I was a kid and riding 3 wheelers and quads. They could handle quite a bit, and worse case scenario, you could have someone pull you out and just let things dry out. But going deep with the 4runner seems like a PITA.

Dropping the doors is so simple it's not even funny. Roll your windows down, pull the sill plate trim and kick panel, unplug two connectors (White and Blue for the front), unbolt 5 bolts and you're done.
Dude, with what you're doing, you should give up on carpet and just bed line your floor pan. Might want to invest in newer door seals too, may slow down intrusion anyway.
I will also second that for a first run, that front bumper didn't turn out horrible. I've see work from people with a lot more fab time under their belt turn out worse. Keep practicing, you'll be turning out good stuff in a few years.
Can't accuse you of having a mall crawler, that's for sure.

It is definitely a PITA, I had put my freshly cleaned carpet in 5 days before the trip and I told myself that I wasn't going to hit the mud, but when I saw it I couldn't resist :redbrick: The snorkel works great for stopping you from hydrolocking but I didn't even think about other places water can get (starter,coilpacks etc)
I think the reason I find myself dunking my truck into the water is all the questions I get, "wow does that actually work?" "how deep have you gotten it" everytime I go to get gas, it drives me nuts. I don't want people to think I'm strictly mall crawler and only got it for looks (although it does look badass)

I actually wouldn't recommend taking your doors off like I did. Driving around town at around 20 its amazing but going any faster than that the buffeting and wind make it impossible to hear. But if you've ridden in a jeep and know you like it then hell yeah take them off!
And yes there is a write up somewhere on here, if you can't find it I can send you a couple pictures of how I did.

update
After last wheeling trip I was getting misfire on cylinder 1, narrowed it down to a coil, replaced it. Starter still takes a few tries to start, am not sure if I need a whole new starter or just the contacts, either way I don't want to do it right now :nono::nono: .... Black friday I ordered some 4xinnovations skid plates and sliders!!!!!!!! :girl: Plan on ordering either the ebay uniball uppercontrol arms or the spc ones. Then when I get my tax return in the spring (yes I get a tax return I'm an 18 year old broke kid) I plan on ordering 4xinnovations tire swing! Unless some shit goes to shit and I need it for other things

So after I graduate my parents are moving to Arizona. So me and a buddy are kind of tentatively planning on helping them move down there, and on the way back stopping at moab, in colorado and some other places. So the truck has to be pretty built and very reliable by july. What this means for the thread is that there will most likely be more action.

Did a little snow wheeling, Tried to rockbounce my way up an old creek bed full of large boulders...didn't end well
Pictures aren't very good but I slid onto a large boulder got my rear axle hung on it, then pivoted into about a 6inch diameter tree and knocked it over with my door
Damage report, ,couple good sized dents and scratches on my door and a snapped ebrake cable
