Do the two bolts holding the tire arm in its position do a good enough job holding its place under vibration? Or is welding recommended like the video shows near the end of the video in post #2?

I personally didn't trust it. Not because of build quality, just because I'm always paranoid of things going wrong. So what I did was I drilled through so the bolts would go in, and then I also welded them in place. This isn't exactly necessary from what I've been told, but it gave me peace of mind.

Obviously, the RIGd is nice and has a lot of features, but again, at that point, you're better off spending $700 more and get a rear bumper and not only have better clearance, but more options for carrying things.

I'm not one to tell someone how to spend their money, but I believe you made the right decision, especially if you plan on getting a rear bumper in the future.

$700 more does not get you more of anything. The CBI rear with a swing, table and powder coated is over $4,000 shipped….so maybe you should actually do five seconds of research before spewing all over your keyboard on a Saturday. Just to recap, you believe the hundreds of people in here completely wasted their money on the rigd, and should have just spent thousands more on an actual rear bumper. Cool story Chad!

The way I looked at it was that the shrockworks bumper without tire carrier starts at 1700, so that means shrockworks charges 800 for a tire carrier, hilift and dual jerry can mount. That pricing is more inline with DOM or RIGD is way overpricing their products.

I wasn't going to overpay for a tire carrier (RIGD) but I wasn't going to overpay for a steel bumper either (CBI).

I ended up going with shrockworks. It made the most sense given my budget.

Or at least at the time of coming out they had quite a few. Followers eat stuff up and they knew they'd get whatever they wanted. When i found out RigD was charging 1400 for a tire carrier, they better include some extra stickers with purchase....should make suckers feel better about their purchase. Although I rather not be the sucker in the first place.

I posted in this thread two years ago about mine and still have nothing but good things to say about the product. It was initially supposed to be a temporary spare carrier until I bought a full rear bumper, but it's done everything I've needed it to so I ended up keeping it for much longer than expected. Its been offroaded a ton, smashed on various obstacles, been in rain and snow, and i've had zero issues with it. Even the $30 rattle can job I did 2 years ago looks great still. Honestly, I still can't figure out why people are paying $1400 for these carriers when this one exists for literally a fraction of the cost.

I wanted the spare to sit closer than the DOM, I couldn't deal with the constant radio silence during the strewn out back and forth with DOM + I couldn't wait +10 months.

That said, $650 is a great price and if you're willing to deal w/ all that - more power to you.

I needed a solution with a few more features, in-hand sooner v. later and was willing to pay more.

Point taken. No hate, I'm sure everyone has their own reasons for getting the RIGd. It definitely has more out of the box features and add on options. From a price perspective, I just think that if more people knew about DOM, they would think twice about dropping double the money for the RIGd especially since most people just use these as a way to get their spare out of the stock location (or mall crawl).

I will note that the spare actually sits closer to the hatch on the DOM than any other carrier though
