Ugh, I'm still waiting for my cement tundra to come in. It's only been 2.5 months since I jumped on the waiting list.

I agree, those are truly all over. My mom has a pilot. While it's been a good car for her, it completely feels like a minivan behind the wheel. She sure likes it though and that's all that matters.

Funny story about his Cement Tundra. I know they are hard to come by, but he walked into the dealership and just bought it right there on the spot. I guess the truck came to Utah as a golf tourney promo. He found out later that a ton of people that had ordered the truck were very upset haha.

I've ridden in a few Pilots and they are very comfortable...never drove one or had the desire to. :tea:

I have a friend (nice guy, not real smart) who decided to trade his "gas guzzler" Pilot for a CRV the last time gas prices went up. He assured me he would make it back on gas savings. So he traded and got a higher payment ($100/month) but got a four year newer and nicer vehicle. He went from 20 mpg to 28 mpg. He bragged to me how much he was saving. I showed him the math. Turns out he was spending $300 more a year to drive a more efficient vehicle lol.

Well, if you want economy, you have to pay for it.

I do think fuel costs matter some. They were one of the primary deciding factors between buying a LC200 and a 4runner for me. It's $2,000 per year difference at $4/gal, $1,000/yr difference at $2/gal. Will $100-200 per month break the bank? not for me. It's certainly something I did consider. If I knew gas would stay low, I'd seriously consider making the jump. I've almost done it once already.

Something that's not always obvious is that it's not a given that a unibody SUV is either lighter or more fuel efficient. Compare a Honda Ridgeline and a Tacoma for example. Or a 4runner and Lexus RX350 that share nearly identical weight and drivetrains. In both cases the MPG is nearly identical.

A Ridgeline gets 21 combined. A Tacoma 4x4 4 door gets 20 combined. The Tacoma is 110lbs LIGHTER than the unibody Ridgeline.

Lol, it could be mine. I'm at the point now where I actually hope it doesn't come in until I see the 2018 tundra at the LA auto show. At least then I can decide if I want to wait for a 2018 or go with the TRDP.

That is very true. Our lifted 5th gen gets the same mpg as my mom's pilot and looks a whole lot better doing so. I actually get better mpg than her pilot in my 4th gen which is also lifted.

I'm with you. Homie don't play that game. Separate vehicles (purchased by whoever drives which one), separate checking accounts. Keeps things quiet and me sane.

Almost always though they have crappy Discount Tire wheels on them. I think most people do no research before they buy parts. They just go to Discount and say "I want black wheels. What will fit?" and then they buy those ugly fake beadlock wheels that they sell there.

As you said, it is a perceived issue but a big enough one to halt sales. And I would argue that the economy has not improved significantly from 2013, however gas prices sure as hell took a steep dive and SUVs are flying off the shelf.

Dow is 3000 points higher, unemployment rate is lower, inflation is not out of control, home prices higher. Whether real or perceived, if folks are looking at their 401k or the price of their home, it's probably a lot higher than in 2013. Yes I know plenty of folks don't have a house or 401k, but the demographic of 4Runner owner probably does. There are other factors, not just gas. If we want to really get into the reasons we would need an econometric analysis of the different factors.

In the end what I think a lot of us care about is when the hell the 6th gen is coming. I remember a few years ago we were arguing about whether Toyota would kill off the 4Runner, how silly that was!

All 4Runner gens representing here in Utah and quite a few PROS around. Probably 10 4Runners in my company parking lot including a bone stock MGM Trail that I like to park next to, to show them the possibilities haha. Also a brand new Cement Tundra Pro that the site boss drives.

I work for a large pharmaceutical company on the R&D side so most of our workforce are educated Asian Americans. The lot is probably 80% Honda, Toyota, Lexus, and Acura already, so maybe an unfair comparison to a more "diverse" company.

I used to drive a Mercedes. All of my Asian friends drove Toyotas and Lexus'. Literally every single one. I just assumed they wanted Asian cars to stay true to their roots.

But then I learned they were just smarter than I was. They bought vehicles based on logic, reliability, economy, resale value, etc etc.

I see you're also in CO...but yes. I just bought mine a little over a month ago and I'll pull up to a light and there's usually at least one other 4R, sometimes many. In my small-ish neighborhood, there are probably five new 4Rs with temp tags within the past two months. I think next to Subarus, the 4R has to be the most popular vehicle out here.

I wanted to do 275s, but the Falkens didn't come in that size. Also, in the LT spec, the 265s are rubbing on brake dive and with the wheel at full-lock. I need to get a heat gun and take care of the front mud flaps.

I cut my front plastic bumper a bit and just moved the fender liners forward and made new screw holes. They still rub just a tad but I have 1.25 spacers on there too just because I like they way it looks!

Lol, we have the same family setup...2015 4Runner, 2012 Outback, the only thing is in S. FL, we are the oddballs. I feel like we should live in CO or Vermont!
