Did you buy or consider Alaskaman's Extended Warranty?

Thank-you Alaskaman for "bird-doggin" the Toyota Platinum Warranty that some of us have/will pruchase. I'm curious how many of us actually purchase the warranty or are going to purchase the warranty. Read here for more info: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49253

The reason I posted this is two fold: 1) I'm curious. 2) If someone else is trying to woo a vendor into a "group buy" price and Molle Toyota sells more than a couple warranties then this thread may become good ammo to use when selling the concept of a group buy price for T4R.org. It'll prove that we exist, have 4Runners and some money.

Have heavily considered buying into an extended warranty... The problem comes down to whether or not it will be worthwhile to me. If I plan in selling the truck within the next 2 - 3 years, it would not be worth the price of admission.

I agree. If you plan to sell privately it may be good. If I understand properly the Platinum is transferrable. That'd make yours that much more attractrive on the open market.... And for your 2wd it's cheaper than $835.

Copy this. I bought mine on Wednesday from Neil who is now (per Flyer) probably running whiskey to the Taliban to help them weigh the advantages of good liquor vs. blowing things up

I am looking forward to getting mine in the mail in a few days.....one of those things I hope that I never "need".........

I agree, but I don't know what day of the week mine was built and a pint is a pound the world around! And I looked for a 4X4 checker cab and couldn't find one.

I hear you guys about not needing it. Hopefully you're right.

There's been a couple of creaky seats and a t-case replaced via the Platinum, IIRC. Melinda (Ruffian) got some good work done on hers. IMHO one screwed up VSC or brake motor and the warranty is worth it.


I agree that T4Rs are great. My concern is I will blow a gasket if my 90k 4Runner needs some expensive repair, that's why I'm in. Hey, it's cheaper than 3-4 trips to a good shrink!:bash: The shrink is what I'd need. It'd be like learning the proverbial girl next door tortured small animals for fun if my VSC took a $3500 dump at 87k. If it fails and they fix it for 'free' then I can begin to heal from the emotional trauma sooner:lmao:

I have enough surprises in my life without worrying about my vehicle. If I throw $800.00 away and life is worry free for 7 years that is ok with me. Besides if you noticed Toyota will tow your vehicle if it becomes disabled to the nearest dealer. Up here in the land of ice and volcanos that can be a thousand miles. Just that cost alone can pay for the warranty. Besides then you can tip Jake who will be driving the Tow in the middle of winter and you want Jake to be happy.....:

I have a 7/100k plat $0 on mine as well. With my V8 4WD I am really glad I did too, there have been issues with the main seal leaking (best friend is a service writer for Toyota). If there is any type of leak whatsoever at 99k I am gettin a new one LOL


But yes, if you can get the warranty do so. Toyota's are built better than anything else on earth, we all know this, but Toyota doesn't make everything on the vehicle. Those parts are why I got the warranty.

Mine cost under $800 but anytihng under $900 is a decent price. It depends on how much the dealership packs their warranties as to how cheap you can get em. I know I got mine the cheapest possible since I am the finance guy :biggrin2:

Normal dealer pack on a warranty is $100-$200. Even if the F&I guy knows what the pack is, ya can't get that off (even I didn't lol) so I am thinkin the actual cost on a 7/100 is about $625-$675 from JM&A or FWS. Remember to always be nice to the service writer on warranty claims though, he can tank a claim faster than hell if he really wants to and make gettin a repair done hell.

Oh, and I bought mine last January for my '08 V8 4WD Sport

I got mine in the mail yesterday. looks nice. protection on virtually everything except wear and tear and the GF repeating whine line and socket.
