The 4Runner will get a diesel exactly 2 years after the Jeep Wrangler gets one... Which is most likely never, at least in US markets.

The wrangler is about to happen, but will be short lived. The t4r will never happen.

I'm still not banking on the diesel happening in the wrangler. Even with an announcement that it should be in the next gen wrangler. The pickup based on the wrangler is another ball of wax all together.

That should be enough to tell you the site is bogus.
 
An OEM diesel-powered 4Runner is very possible... just not in North America, and not 5th gen. I'm guessing it's too late in this generation for a new engine release; if it were planned for 5th gen it would have come with the mid-gen-update in 2014.

They make Taco's with diesels right now; it's just that they aren't selling them here. If Tacos with diesels start selling in North America, then maybe a diesel 4Runner might follow a few years later.


As for poor wording, that's obviously just a bad translation of something originally written in another language. So theoretically it's possible it was written about a diesel 4Runner to be released in Latin America or China.

It will happen, but that motor is a POS anyway. It's been very buggy in the JGC.

Not really, No Tacos with a diesel. Those are Hilux (not sold here). Also no 4Runners, I'm pretty sure those are Prados (which are sold here as a Lexus GX)....

Toyota will never sell a diesel in a SUV or small truck in North America. They have been asked and responded with simple math explaining why several times.

Doesn't a prado share the same chassis/frame with a 4runner?

This website is bogus, but as for Toyota putting a diesel engine into the 4runner, my thoughts are:
'if you build it, they will come.'
