DIff Seal Leaking

Has anyone out there had any issues with the front diff seal leaking, the seal behind the drive axle? I have had a leak ever since I installed the Toytec 3" spacer, it is not a fast leak, but it gets on the exhaust and smells awful. I have replaced the seal twice as well as the drive axle, any advice? Thanks in advance for your help.

I've replaced mine twice and still having the same problem. How many miles are on yours?
I'm going to go get the taper bearings checked inside of the t-case really soon, I'll let you know if that solves it.

Probably 10k on the newest set, I installed the diff drop hoping that would solve it, no such luck. Thanks for the info and let me know about the other seal

are you installing a factory seal from the dealer or an aftermarket? Also when installing your CV axles are you doing anything to damage the new seal like scoring it with the axle splines?

I didn't install my seals, a shop did both of mine for me, along with my wheel bearing at the same time. And my reasoning for that is because I get a heck of a discount at a very reputable shop. Most my other stuff is done by myself.

If the shop has done the service and the leak is still present it's their responsibility to stand behind their work. You have no way of knowing what or if they've done something wrong so they need to go back in and solve the issue.

you can ask them if there using the correct seals or not. I replaced mine with factory seals when i re-geared and installed lockers. I haven't had a leak at all even with aftermarket CV axles.

it takes the same one for both sides. I entered your info as a 4speed wasn't sure if you had the 5speed or not but I don't believe it makes a difference in the front axle.

Thanks man! and yes sadly it is the 4speed, wish it was the 5speed. Maybe in the next 4runner I buy I'll be able to snatch up a 5speed

The seal is a Toyota seal, they are pretty cheap directly from the dealer. I had a Toyota tech put in the seal and the axle on both occasions, still leaks.

Both of mine were leaking and had them replaced. One side leaked 2 weeks later, then again another 5k miles later. Both times replaced under warranty. I always feel like I smell gear oil and constantly finding myself checking under there too. Frustrating for sure.
