Difference Between Cold Air Intake Dry Filter and Wet Filter

I was wondering what the difference is between the cold air intake dry filter and the wet filter? Which one is better?

Also does the TRD cold air intake come in both - dry and wet filter types.

I understand that TRD may only come in wet, can you take the AFE dry filter and put it on a TRD setup?

Dry filter = non-treared, dry pleated paper. These are typically non-reusable. You might be able to use compressed air from the inside out to remove larger contaminants but very fine particles will eventually clog the media.

Wet or oiled filter = Lightly oiled paper or other media filter. Can be washed and reoiled many times.

You can often find replacement dry filters from various places and Amsoil sells a rather good variety of sizes so it's not hard to get one that's close. For the oiled type, you can buy a "recharging" kit that contains a cleaning agent and fresh filter oil. But the filter will be out of service for 12-24 hours since you need to allow the filter to dry thoroughly before reoiling. Also, it's easy to overoil. Overoiling will contaminate the MAF requiring a MAF cleaning. I've had varied success with oiled filters.

IMO, they both filter equally well.

The dry filters like the afe pro dry, they are reuseable many times like the k&n . You clean it by vacuming it then rinsing with a soap and water solution and let it dry! I've read with the k&n if you over oil it the excess oil can mess up the maf sensor!

:iagree:first off, let me say ive used oiled filters for way over 15 years, oiled filters can foul the maf, & if it can do that , it can also get to the TB. it happened on 2 vec. i owned, & it was before i even had a chance to clean & oil them myself. so in my opinion, use a dry filter on the t4r since the maf is co close to the filter itself. both times it happened about a year after installing,some DRY filters are reuseable, just like the oiled ones,& may cost a bit more , but u wont have to ever purchase oil for it.
