So, ever since I bought this truck (10/23/10) its been having a little leak from the differential. I didn't think much of it, I mean hey, i got the truck for $500 from this lady in Coarsegold, Ca. Her husband used to own it but he passed away some time and she's kinda left it sitting in her front yard for some time, I happen to drive by one fateful day and saw it so I asked if she would part with it. She said she tried selling but no one wanted to take it since it was a V6 and IFS, and "not running". She also didn't know if the truck was non-op registration or not so I figured if it wasn't fees would be roughly $500-$600 for the 3 years it sat around (luckily it was so fees were only $56 plus smog) long story short, I got it running and smogged in about 2 days time.
My problem now has been since I cleaned the differential breather about 2 weeks ago. I noticed it was leaking way more than it was when it was dirty. It was actually so clogged that the oil blew through the gasket seal! so I changed the seal and cleaned the breather. Turns out the breather was broken, the spring didn't retract and close the cap anymore so not only would I be in danger of sucking in water, I now had an oil sprinkler on differential.
so since i didn't want the truck to spilling oil all over the underside I decided of relocating the breather rather than purchasing another factory one. plus it was an easy fix for around $15 these were the parts I purchased (all of the parts were bought at Napa Auto parts: 6ft long 1/4" high pressure tubing (graded for oil), 1/8" NPT X BARB hose fitting, aftermarket air breather, and 2 hose clamps.
Taking the breather off was easy, its a size 14mm long neck socket or 14mm wrench. Putting the 1/8" on was equally easy 11mm long neck and torque down to right specs. I used zip ties to hold the hose in place. It was quick and got the job done nicely.

I chose to relocate the breather to a place high enough not to get water into it since it was now a free flowing breather rather than a pressure sensitive breather like the factory ones. Ideally I chose the drivers side cargo area because it stays relatively dry and though it might get dusty, regular cleaning of the filter should be good enough.
SORRY FOR THE OVERLY LARGE PHOTOS. I'LL LEARN HOW TO MAKE THEM SMALLER IN THE FUTURE ON THIS MAC LOL.
