dim console led lights

Hi folks! Great to be here. I've got a new 4Runner Limited. Wonderful vehicle and glad to be back to a Toyota.

I'm wondering why there is no brightness control for the orange LED displays in the center console? In any sort of sunlight it is impossible to read cabin temperature etc. etc. There does not appear to be a dimmer.

The lights are on the dimmer, when the headlights are on, otherwise they are at full brightness.

On the left dash is a dimmer switch with locks in the uppermost, brighest position.

It should be noted that with the headlights and marker lights on (NOT DRLs) the orange center console lighting is a bit dimmer than with the lights off. The location is a bit dumb, tho, because the sunroof still washes out the panel.

It is the the orange center console lighting that I have trouble seeing. In daylight it is all but impossible to even tell the cabin temp. There is no manual control of these orange lights correct? Otherwise my gawd a great vehicle.

The dimmer works both the center console lights (temp, MPG) and the main cluster in front of the driver. If it's not locked in the uppermost position of the dial, it won't be as bright.

Also, if you have headlights on during the day (or the side marker lights--NOT DRL) it will dim the centerl display down one notch making it harder to see.

If you have a sunroof, the light will wash out the display in certain conditions.

You can adjust the brightness by pressing and holding the mode button for several seconds until ill is displayed. Use the ^button to adjust. There is only off, ill1 and ill2 to adjust to. 2 seems plenty bright in mine.

LandCruiser and Dhylander - THANK YOU I'll try both.
