Dipping the entire TE

Been lurking for a while now finally starting my build.
Bought a black 11 TE about 6 months ago, now that the nice weather has arrived it's time to start customizing.
I've done some limited off-roading and a few fishing trips and the black just doesn't hold up. The swirls, clear coat scratches, etc. drive me nuts. Plus car was keyed a month after I bought it. I know I shouldn't have bought black but dealer took 7 grand off as it was a showroom car and last 2011 in Ontario.

That being said to I'm strongly considering Plasti Dipping the entire truck in a matte black finish. Curious if anyone has done it yet or know of someone who has? Could you post pics? Suggest reasons why I shouldn't? I don't offroad too much but do a lot of camping/fishing on old logging roads.

Plan to dip the rims, add a Satoshi grill mod, wheel spacers, tint, Gobi roof rack and bilstein 5100's at the end.

it will suck to clean as it has kind of an odd texture to it. Once you get it covered in mud or dirt, washing it kind of leaves white spots on it. The truck will also appear more dark matte gray than black... but you can always remove it.

You could try white dip. lol.

Seriously though... I'd try to see what a full vinyl wrap would cost.

It's not exactly cheap. Going rate down here in SoCal for an entire vehicle at a shop is around $3K. I've thought about doing it on my 89 K5 Blazer as it needs paint. The wrap is cheaper than a decent paint job at a shop, but the wraps don't last forever.

Obviously, if you DIY, it's much cheaper if you've got the skills and patience.

You can save $500 and do it yourself. Dipyourcars.com makes a kit with 4-5 gallons of dip and a spray gun for I think $475.

I plan on doing mine pretty soon if everything works out. Its that or powdercoat my wheels :naughty:

I've been looking a lot at the dipyourcar stuff and it's pretty crazy what they can do. I'd give it a try since it's only a few hundred and much more forgiving than vinyl.

Each to their own. Using dip to add accents can enhance the appearance. I think doing the entire truck makes the it look fugly.

Have to agree. Can't imagine what that would do to resale value. Sure, you can "take it off", but what a PITA.

Get it detailed and trade it for a silver TE.

And that's just the pictures. I bet it looks worse in real life! Just my opinion...It's like spraying your ride with a can of primer.
