I'm not sure I've ever seen someone roll a rig and come out out the other side with a rig that's more badass than it was to begin with. Until now anyway. Just wow man. Great work.

Thank you! I honestly might have gone a bit overboard, but this was one of the few times in my life when I had the extra money (from the insurance claim) and a vehicle that normally would have been a total write off. It's been a lot of work but hopefully it will be be worth it once it's done!

Jeremiah, just looking at the pics, I can tell it will "be worth it".

As always very well done! Your attention to detail is always top shelf...

I really hope I get to see this on the trail in person some day.

Not to spread it too thick, but you truly are an inspiration to me and this forum.

Wow. I'm late to the party, but I did just go back 15 pages and get caught up.

So glad you are good after that roll, and HOT damn the truck is transformed. Can't wait to see pics of it out on the trail again!
 
I recently did the same thing to my Cooper's. They're at half tread and right now and I agree they are horrible in anything other than deep snow and rock. The grooving definitely helped a lot but man were my shoulders sore the next day lol. I'll probably go back sometime and be more aggressive with the groover. Needless to say though I doubt I'll be getting another set of these.

Thanks for checking in and spending the time to get caught up. Hopefully I'll have some pictures in the next month or two!

They are okay, not the worst tire I've ever had but far from the best. We will see how the grooving changes the performance, but I've already been looking at other options for down the road. I have always wanted 40's, but I know the drivetrain won't hold up to them. I recently saw that BFGoodrich has the KM3 in a 39" size, and it measures out to 38.5". They probably run closer to 38" which would be a great option, but they are stupid expensive ($500 a tire).

Thanks Chris! That's the goal I'm shooting for, I still have a long list of things that need to be done but I've been prioritizing what really HAS to be done and what can wait. A lot depends on how the initial test drive goes.
 
I finally got around to doing something with the video footage I got on the 4Runner’s last snow wheeling trip. Unfortunately it was only the second time out with real snow on the ground, so I didn’t have a ton of footage but I did the best I could. It’s pretty crazy how much snow there was for the beginning of November!

I've been following since the accident. First off, glad you're ok and weren't seriously injured in the roll over. Second, the 4Runner is looking absolutely amazing! I can't wait to see this thing back out of the trail and watching the amazing videos that you put together.
 
I will be the first to admit that I’ve been horrible at updating this thread. I have been working my butt off to get this thing up and going, but between work and family time the internet takes a back seat (as it should).

I finally have a little more time on my hands, as most of you can relate to. My county went on lock down two weeks ago, but I was still able to work considering I’m a mechanic and I have an entire warehouse bay to myself (we have two bays, and two mechanics, so the whole social distancing thing is WELL within guidelines). But, yesterday the whole state went into lock down, so the owners of the company shut down until we can figure out where exactly we stand and what we can do. That means I’m at home, and I can finally update this thread.

To back track a little bit, I was shooting to have the 4Runner drivable (not done) for a March Moab trip with some friends, and a couple people on this forum. I honestly think I could have made it happen, but then my coworker who was in California had to self quarantine, and my daughter’s school shut down, and then Moab shut down (no offensive, I realize they have a small hospital). So the trip was cancelled, but I did make good progress in that final push.

Instead of posting a bunch of pictures leading up to where the truck is now, I’m just going to let the cat out of the bag and I’ll fill in on the details as time allows. :D

That is impressive Jeremiah. It is a jaw dropping transformation that you have made happen. I am impressed how far you have come as well as how it sits now. Most excellent.

How does it feel driving it? And how does it drive? I mean, it was weird for me to go from my old built rig, to my stock replacement. I have slowly been putting it back together, but it feels weird to drive a pretty much OEM vehicle after daily driving the built rig so long. I can only imagine how your experience driving it has changed over time.

I am just happy to see a pic of your rig back outside in its natural habitat. Well done.

Thanks Ryder!! I have only driven it around the block a couple times, it's different but it still feels like the same truck. I know how you feel, I tried to take my wife's mildly built 4Runner wheeling last summer and it's just not the same.

I had to build all new brake lines from the transfer case back, so on the first test drive the brakes were soft and I had to tighten some fittings. The body and frame are now one, just like a buggy, so there is more noise but I did my best to sound proof everything and try to minimize rattles. The exhaust is louder than it was, but I also don't have a window in the passenger side door yet so hopefully once I get all the windows and interior panels in it will be acceptable.

The rear suspension geometry feels a lot better than it did before, it has a ton of travel but it moves in a very controlled motion vs the jacked up stock geometry. I’m really looking forward to taking it out and seeing what it will do! Hopefully in the next week or two I be able to wrap up a few loose ends and actually take it for a real drive.
