Dirty throttle body!

Hello! On my way to work yesterday, my t4r died on me at almost every street light. The rpms would drop below 500 then the truck would shake and die. I did some research on the forum and some people were recommending to clean the tb, so i did just that today and this is what i found!


layer of black sludge on the back of tb...and some i scraped off with a pick.



this is how clean i was able to get it using brake cleaner and a scocthbrite.
Notice the light coming in now on the top and bottom of the butterflys.

the plentum was just as worst



i just want to know if this is normal. 99 base 3rz with 220,xxx.

oh, and the iacv was actually pretty clean and in working order. i tested it electrically.

That is crazy. Looks like they ran to much K&N oil through that thing or something. Either way I have an extra on if this one is shot if you need it.

Hahaha! It actually has the stock airbox,I still don't know why this happened...

There are K&N that fits into the air box.

Just use OEM toyota air filter ($21 or so).

That is the dirtiest TB I have ever seen. :wacko: I would be scared to see what it looks like under the valve covers or in the oil pan.

Holy hell that's terrible. Good job with the throttle body. It should run much better. After you get it back on I'd run seafoam through the pcv hose several times. Several times.
