DISABLING DRL's

I just picked up an '06 Sport Edition and I was wondering if anyone could direct me to information on disabling my DRL's.

I am just curious, but why would you like to do that?
Having DRL saves you in insurance premium because it is a safety feature.

Anyway, which dealearship in Hawaii did you get your 4Runner? How much?

I just ordered a Black 2006 4Runner V6 2WD Sports Edition with all the options except DVD entertainment and navigation (not offered in Hawaii) from Winward Toyota and I was told that it is already in the dock and awaiting clearance from Customs.
 
I use my 4Runner for work and there are times that I don't want my vehicle to be standing out. If there was a way to turn it on and off that would be fine. As far as I can remember, I was never asked about DRL's when I switched insurance carriers.

I went through Toyota City. Mine is the V-8 model with pretty much everything except the DVD/Navigation as well. I got a good deal on it. My friend is in charge of that new facility that they just built out in Mapunapuna.
 
Your DRL's are controlled by a relay. One type of relay for DRL and another type of relay for non-DRL. It's just as simple as switching out relays.
There are several threads on this, and if you do a search you will find part #'s and the exact location of the relay.
I'm not sure where it's located off the top of my head.
 
I added DRLs a while back by purchasing the flasher relay off of partznet for about $35. I still have the old flasher relay which disables the DRLs. If your interested in it, make me an offer. It has been sitting here collecting dust. Keep in mind that I have an 04 and I believe that it should be the same.

The part number of the flasher that I have is 81980-50030. You could always check partznet (or your dealer) to see what the part number of the flasher is that you would need.

just go to your dealer and they will turn off the drl fuction with a scan tool.. i just did mine today on my 06 sport v8. it takes them 2 seconds and they will do it for free.. you just have to convince them that its possible.
 
I like having DRL's , but I too work like to be able to turn them on and off by a switch. My Tahoe had that feature of just turning them on and off. It was nice.

The DRL off option is handy like at night parked and waiting on people.

I don't know about SR5's and SE's. Limited's probably don't have the DRL off option because of the auto on/off position for the headlights. My Camry has a DRL-off position on the turn signal stalk, but it doesn't have auto on/off. My buddy's Camry with auto on/off does not have the DRL-off position. We both have the same gen Camry's.

There is no DRL off option that i'm aware of on my 06 SE. Except for doing the parking brake trick , but that does not cut it for me.

With all the extra switch plates they could have made a ton of things to turn on and off.

Falls, are you aware that one click of the pedal will do it? I'd be comfortable driving for an extended period on one click. Almost as easy as a switch, IMO.
 
Yes but out have to turn the truck off hit the e brake and then restart it to be sitting with the DRLs off and the engine running.

True. As seldom as I want to turn them off, though, I'm plenty happy there's such an easy work around.
 
JB, Thats true , but a switch would be nice...lol

As far as daily driving I would'nt be without them, a true usefull safety feature.
