Disappointed with windshield glass

I bought my 2015 new on April 11th, 2015 and it just turned 16,000 miles. I'm disappointed at how 'sandblasted' my windshield is in such a short time. I even have several small 'divots' that appear as white dots when looking out of the windshield. I am retired and do not commute and I drive on the highway VERY infrequently. I drove my '95 4Runner nearly 200,000 miles without this much deterioration. Anybody having a similar experience? Are they using 'softer' glass? I'm glad I don't have to commute in the low sunshine of rush hour because it's really noticeable then.

Only slight ding I have is from a rock that got launched from a truck tire at me. Small pebble but made a nice ding.

Other than that I have some scratches from my own stupidity mudding lol
 
I doubt it has as much to go with the glass itself, as much as it has to do with the angle of the glass.

Not sure if it's just the way it looks, but 3rd gens seem to have a more slanted, angled windshield than the 5th gen. My wrangler windshield was a mess after less than 30k miles, pretty much due to the angle.

I bought a 2010 LE in August and under certain light conditions have the same issue. Didn't have it in my 2003 Sport even after 270000 miles. "Sandblasted " is an accurate description of the effect.

I have noticed the same thing. I'm going to call Geico eventually when it gets unbearable and see what they suggest. But I've owned jeeps with similarly angled windshields and never had this issue. My mom had a Commander and all that windshield ever did was break. Mine looks straight peppered with tiny divots, like you described.

Mine had 9000 miles now and has looked like this since about 5000 miles.
 
Yea, replacing 5th gen windshields is pretty common for us here in Colorado with the mag chloride they drop in the winter (looks like small pea gravel). I also bought my 4runner new in April 2015...I've replaced it once, and already have chips in the new one. I'm going to wait till it develops cracks before replacing again. I did however up my coverage with Geico...they don't do a separate windshield replacement, they just cover it 100% in my comprehensive coverage. I only have 14k on the odometer too.
 
I talked to a glass guy about this same issue. His opinion is the glass on newer cars is much softer and prone to chips. He said he has seen this problem across all brand, makes and models.
