Disgusted with Toyota dealership experience

I've found Lexus to have the worst service department I've ever been to. LHM in Utah. So bad I made a deal with lexis that our new one gets serviced at Toyota. Sometimes the dealer is bad enough to buy another brand. I would not own a Lexus in Utah if I had to go back to the only lexus dealer.

I found it ironic that the op is complaining about the extremely high resale value and then proceeds to the Jeep dealer. Of course leasing a heep is probably a good choice. That same limited gc is going to be half of new price in 2 years.

If you seriously want a 4runner Costco or cargurus are great places to start. Or find a best price dealer. Ressler Toyota in Montana is one I bought from. No negotiation at all. No add on fees no sales tax. Literally the price on the website is what you pay. if there's not a dealer in your area like that a plane ticket is cheap and it could be a great road trip.

All cars break down, talking of 4Runner like they never break is plain stupid.

The probabilities of breaking down are orders of magnitude different between the two. Is very likely that a 4runner will go to 200k worth zero repairs that immobilize it. ie. calling a tow truck. It is very likely that the drive train will have zero repairs in that time. It is very unlikely that any jeep will do the same. It depends on how valuable your time is when u break down.

For me, the buying process of any brand is pretty much the same...luxury brand tend to be a little less cheesy though. The biggest difference for me is the AFTERSALE service. With luxury brands, the pricing is straight forward. With Toyota, Honda, Subaru, etc., it is like buying a car all over again whenever you go in for an service. Haggle with them over prices...and then they get visibly upset when you want Owner's Manual service only instead of their "packages."

For example, when my wife brought in our Sienna for warranty repair, they try to convince her that our TOYOTA PLATINUM extended warranty could not be used locally because we bought it from another dealership! Of course, before this, they pretend that they do not see our extended warranty on their computer. I had to go to the dealer to set them straight. At Subaru, the service writer REPEATEDLY pretends that he is ignorant of what the Owner's Manual service requirements are. Instead, he keeps on pushing my wife to buy service packages that are at least double the price of Owner's Manual service requirements. Constant arguing with them...and constant (pretend) ignorance by them.

It gets tiring after a while. We both have decided that our future cars will be luxury branded. We have been particularly impress with our local Acura dealership.

Seems like a simple process: lease NEW 2015, no trade-in, no down payment, credit score near the top. All I want is a fair price quote that should be about $41-$41.5, plus fees (need to know those to avoid surprises), option to buy at lease end (residual) and MF. Basic lease breakdown worksheet.

WTF. Why are you so concerned about getting the fair price yet you want to lease it. Getting a lease will always screw you over unless you own a small business and can dump the fees into the business as an operating expense.

Either way as long as you lease ..... they win, you lose.

To all T4R owners: is this what it takes to become a T4R owner??? How much crap one has to take to enjoy a great engineering that is 4R???

In my experience amount of crap doesn't depends on vehicle make. . All dealerships want to get as much as possible money from you, negotiations really depends on how many vehicles they have on the lot and if they fulfilled they quotas or not. That's the nature of their business. Some dealerships are better, some are worse, it even depends on what particular salesperson you talk too.

To all the flamers: I am trying very hard to buy 4Runner but...
God forbid there is a negative post on this forum about 4Runner experience! Be that driving or buying... Tar and feather him! Run him out of town! Maybe that is why there are no negative 4R posts....
I guess reading comprehension is not a strong suite of some people here.

1. 2 hours at the dealer included checking out 2015 4Runners, and test drive of 2013 and 2011 model, both limited. 2011 had 70k miles and I wanted to see how it is holding up interiorand overall. Negotiations lasted all of 25 minutes
2. When did I say something negative about 4R?
3. So far I visited 1 dealership, and about contacted about 8 more for a quote via email. Same runaround. not a single number.
4. Dumbo - dealer said test drive JC for as long as you want, come back when you are ready and gave me keys to 2 cars. I just like you took it as forever and still have that car on dealer plates...
5. Yes first time posting but I think I saw every MG post / what did you do today / and price related posts.

In my search for 4Runner I visited Infiniti dealer (2010 SR5/leather/SR, 45k), Lexus (2010 SR5, 2011 Limited had ~42k), Nissan dealer (2011 SR5, MG, 48k)
These were all test drives to see/drive various models in order to evaluate if they are holding up well. Quality Engineer in me requires that, nothing like real time aging to evaluate product performance over time. All positive experiences, all offered to give me a car for a weekend. Did not take that offer as it was early in my search/research

I made a decision to go with NEW 2015 4Runner Limited, as prices for used with 40k are within $5K of new. I will be including one I got from Jeep with my next emails so Toyota sales force can see how it can be done.

Why no down payment or why no pay in cash (if I was to buy) - $44k * 10% annual return rate = $4400/year in my pocket. Stupid to even put $1000 down with rates this low!

If I could only lease a Toyota from Jeep/Lexus dealership :trophy:

All cars break down, talking of 4Runner like they never break is plain stupid.

I bet you would have been better received if your post looked something like this.

Hi guys, so I'm looking at 4Runners but didn't have much luck with "X" dealership. Does anybody have any recommendations for other dealers in the Chicago area? Thanks for the help.

Exactly. No whiners.

Try looking at dealerships in Wisconsin. I got a quote from Don Jacobs in Milwaukee that was lower then anything I could find in Michigan.

I think I got a quote from the same dealer in Chicago as you did. He was higher then anything in Michigan, before he added his fluff.

Listen buddy, you went to one dealer. If you did any homework prior to going to Arlington, then you would have seen that people think the sales staff are jerks and quite uninformed as to their product. Arlington is my local dealer and I have a very good relationship with the parts department, but I would never buy a new or used vehicle from them because the general manager is a jerk. And for that matter, more often than not, the people in Chicagoland car dealerships can be a big PIA.

For example, Classic Toyota in Waukegan is terribly over priced. Naperville Toyota has better pricing than most around the area. Grossinger in Lincolnwood has always been very fair to me, the same with Schaumburg.

You see where I'm going with this. You went to one dealer, you let them push you around, and now you're complaining that your entire Toyota experience is now ruined and you're going to buy some POS Chrysler product.

A grown-up can realize that one experience (at a car dealer nonetheless) is usually not indicative of an entire brand and company. Every call up your cell phone carrier and get a real prick on the phone? I'm sure you have. I bet you still have the same phone carrier. You call back until you get someone that's interested in working with you. I would suggest you do the same with your vehicle search, that is if you still want a 4Runner. If you want the free coffees, car washes, and gourmet meals at Fields to keep you occupied and full and clean while they constantly fix your Jeep, then buy from there. They are nice people.

If you're leasing or buying new, then the only time you need to step into a dealership is to inspect the actual car you are purchasing, pay for it, and take delivery. Everything else can be done on the phone or through email without wasting hours of your time. If you want a used car, you better know what the car is worth or you're going to get taken and have a crappy buying experience.

Whatever you decide to do, you shouldn't join an enthusiast forum and start out with your first post how crappy Toyota people are and that after not knowing what you are doing, now going to buy a Jeep and expect kudos and cheers. What you might want to do is ask questions, do some reading of the hundreds of purchasing and 'what's it worth' threads, and then come back to ask questions and be a contributing member.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Exactly. No whiners.

Once again reading comprehension
I am starting to think some 4Runner owners hold on to their cars for so long because buying experience was so trumatic

Why doesn't "Quality Engineer in me requires that" you try to use spell check to spell traumatic instead of "trumatic".

You are so all over the place I can't tell if you are real or a troller.....:loco:

Maybe it's my reading comprehension!

OP

I went through a similar experience as you. I originally looked for used but quickly realized that all I would be saving on a 1-2 year old used T4R was the freight. The used car market on these things is stupid.

I went to one dealer in a nice part of town and they wasted a perfectly good Saturday afternoon trying to convince me why I should pay full MSRP on a 15LE. This was my first Japanese car after a 15 year run with German brands. I struggled with the concept of not making a killer discount.

So, I did my homework, figured what I wanted to pay on the new truck and how much I wanted on my old truck. I marched into another dealer and laid down the numbers. He said ok.

Don't take it personally. It's just business. Be patient and make your deal.

In my case I told my wife I liked 4 Runners. She stopped at a dealer and drove one. She came home and told me she wasnt all that excited about it but it was ok. One day Sat. at 3pm we were going to costco and drove by another toy dealer. She said lets go look together. The salesman was

nice and a little aggressive which is fine. I loved driving it and she now wanted it. He talked us into a lease which I wasnt apposed to. For a SR5 Premium he comes back from the manager and says 550 month with 5000 down. I literally laughed in his face. Stood up and said honey lets go. He then went into panic mode and said he can get that down give him one last try. After making us sit there forever he comes back at 350 month. I usually dont do business with people that try to screw me but my wife needed a car for her cross country trip the next week. I signed the papers and we left. We didnt take the car because she wanted running boards put on first. I did some homework and realized the price was a good discount from the MSRP but since I had to pay the tax on the remaining lease buyout at the time it was a couple grand cheaper to purchase. So Monday I went in and made them tear up the lease and give me the three year free interest the

salesman didnt even offer me. He said he knew nothing about it. Yes they lie, omit things and will steal from you. Its called being a salesman, no different than being a financial planner (life ins. annuity salesman etc.) Sell u the highest commission product and brag to their coworkers how bad they effed you. Anyway got the truck at free interest, quick delivery and discounted to normal Denver prices I could live with that are not the best in the land though. Put 10k down just for the hell of it and didnt buy anything from the finance guy.

Typing on iPhone can do this. Sorry bud but I am an immigrant now American US citizen educated and have a 200k+ salary and from time make spelling mistake.
Sorry but buying 40k truck and adding 20k in option to take it muddin' is not for me
With every post like this makes me think of this south park episode

http://youtu.be/TMTkedIUX8U

So what does your salary have anything to do with this? And why would you need to add 20k in accessories to take it muddin? If you make so much why don't you buy a Land Rover?

Lol, tar and feather.

In all seriousness though, don't be irrational and you should re-consider bailing on the 4Runner idea altogether. You won't get much sympathy in these parts but if the expectation is for the OP to be constructive, then so should the responses. It looks like you have some local/regional people that may be able to help you find a better dealer experience. Good luck!
