So.. I am 20+ year Nissan/Infiniti/Dodge(yes Durango 100k with only a single rear wiper blade issue that was under $100 to fix) driver/owner.

Always loved 4Runner looks/performance but affordability was an issue in my 20s. Have a Infiniti Q45 right now with 80k, great car and ready to upgrade for more utility vehicle. Second car is Murano that last six years took quite a beating on our 2-3 week yearly CO vacations. Got some 'wtf are you doing here looks' on some roads trying to get to a the trailhead, but manage to make it 80% of the time.
Time to change both vehicles, and go after the 20%. One will be a Murano, served well great road manners, great commuter/IL car. Second vehicle needs to more capable for annual CO trips. Took a test drive in 2015 JGC Limited, great feature set but it was missing the out west go anywhere Jeep feel! It had a soccer mom feel. test drove T4R and.... haven! But this is where my Toyota experience took a turn down :Satan:bash:: road.
One dealership (A***n Toyota) tried to sell me a 2013 Limited for $39991/12k plus $299 door edge guards, $299 theft (tramp?) stamps (after 30 min sales pitch still confused what it is lol). Not even a penny give on the price. The funny part is that this same dealership send me a quote for new 2015 T4R Limited for ~41.5k. Salesmen was quite surprised when I mentioned this during brief negotiation while laughing at the $600 in 'options'. Among other gems he managed to bestow on us like 'there is no used car factory'. After 2 hours of 'do they think I am retarded' reflections, I walked out laughing my ass off. For the love of God, I saw one girl almost crying! while looking as the numbers sheet!
I have a busy work schedule, no time to waste. Decided to used Toyota 'request a quote' feature..... to place a seemingly simple request: Lease (yes this works for me) quote for 2015 T4R, even send them detail configuration attachments.
So far I got:
- will beat any quote you get. but no quote for you! like I would not have respect for a person that takes time to put numbers for me and give business to douche to save $5/month????
- we need to see you in person, per 'manager'
- we need to run your credit, ?I told them my credit score , np tier 1 toyota rate
and the disaster just goes on and on....

My Jeep experience was so pleasant, test drive (no sales man), take car for a long as you want, no pressure honest sales pitch. Fields dealership experience! Cant beat that, plus great price$$
Right now I will go back a lease a JGC. What a lost opportunity to gain a customer for next 40+ years...

To all T4R owners: is this what it takes to become a T4R owner??? How much crap one has to take to enjoy a great engineering that is 4R???

I fail to understand why a simple car buying negotiation last 2 hours? You allow they to do this to you. I stop them and cut it short. I always say, just tell me how much and I will tell you if I want to pay it. If you must ask your mamager on any of the pricing, let go see him in his office. this is only if you are really buying not just kick tires. I bought must of my and my sister's cars including her house that way. If they continue to sell you useless stuff after you ask them to stop or refuse, I ask them to repeat what I just said and ask the sales person if they understand what that means? They always stop. That 2 hours I can really spend with my kids goofing off somewhere. I don't mean that you have to be harsh with your tone of voice. I say that stuff with a smile.

Go to a different dealer. Not all are created equal. If you want the POS Jeep, then go buy one and don't complain about problems, including when the transmission goes out and it takes a month to replace. Yes, it's been documented.

Ok. Have fun with that.

signed up for an account just to ***** about his dealership experience and bash 4Runners... He'll be singing a different tune when he's stuck on a trail and needs one of us.

Well, you see.... The Jeep dealership has an obligation to get to know you well up front because they will definitely be seeing A LOT of you in the future for that all important warranty work!

Yo did get the extended warranty with the free rental car, right? RIGHT?:jaw:

Seriously? There are at least 15 Toyotoa dealerships in the Chicago area, and you're basing your decision to buy a JGC on the happenings at one.

The fact that this is your first post is amusing. You sound like a 16-year old kid ranting on Facebook about being treated poorly at Five Guys, so now you're only eating at McDonald's for the next 40 years. Your entire post is laughable.

If you bothered to do any research, you'll see that many members on this site shopped around (even out of state) and didn't let the "big bad dealership" push them around. It's really a simple process -- if you didn't like the price tell them, if you don't like the negotiation tactics get up and leave. At the end of the day, the dealership needs to sell the car, you don't have to buy. It's a commission based business -- they sell or they don't eat.

Just miffed that you would bother to join a forum, ***** about your horrible experience at one dealership, and then tell everyone you're buying a less reliable vehicle. Enjoy the JGC; they look nice, but if you bothered to look at their forums you'll see a lot more "help, this is broken..." posts from their members.

My Toyota dealership offered to give me my 4runner for free after I asked to pay full price. They even paid for my insurance for a full year. I turned them down at first of coarse so I went to look at a Jeep. That dealership kidnapped my wife and told me I couldn't get her back until I paid MSRP.

Of coarse in the end I went with the 4runner. I'll miss my wife but I have a lot more time for fishing now.

Funny since my local jeep dealer adds 5k markup to every Jeep and won't budge on price and doesn't know their own product. There is a thread in the 5th gen forum where many owners have posted their purchase prices. I'm sure you can find it if you look around a bit. You don't seem serious about purchasing a vehicle since you don't have an actual price point in mind.

The JGC dealer is willing to give you a car for as long as you want! For free? That's amazing!

To all T4R owners: is this what it takes to become a T4R owner??? How much crap one has to take to enjoy a great engineering that is 4R???

It was fairly straight forward and easy. First I knew the price of the vehicle, then I went in and paid for said vehicle, and then I left. And I haven't had to go back! I wasn't jerked around and was able to negotiate a great price, well below that of any 4x4 JGCs on the jeep lot. Enjoy your new lease!

I negotiate all prices online or over the phone before I step into the dealership. This includes trade ins. Every time I do it the dealership will say, "oh, we can't do that without seeing the vehicle." And within ten minutes I have a trade in value. Or I don't, but I know not to waste any more time there.

My point is: if a dealership wasted your time, that's your fault. That's not a Toyota problem, its a you problem.

My buying experience never varies after the initial research:
1. Go to dealer
2. Pick a vehicle and test drive test drive test drive
3. Offer a difference
4. Counter their counter
5. Sign papers

I could care less about their practices. I don't want to be their buddy. I don't want free doughnuts. Or hot dogs. Or their "special" sale prices.

Sounds like you weren't quite ready to buy a new vehicle and you sound like a typical Jeep buyer.

My take on buying a new Toyota

Start with a search on any search engine for "how to buy a new car using emails". Read each method, formulate your method, enact your plan, use multiple dealers against each other, get a very fair price.
I did this in Denver, CO., started on a Monday afternoon, bought new2015 TE 3 days later and saved almost $5000 dollars.
You do not need paint nor upholstery protection, security will still be passive, tint will not match the rear windows but, with a little bit of work you can save $$.

wow

To all the flamers: I am trying very hard to buy 4Runner but...
God forbid there is a negative post on this forum about 4Runner experience! Be that driving or buying... Tar and feather him! Run him out of town! Maybe that is why there are no negative 4R posts....
I guess reading comprehension is not a strong suite of some people here.

1. 2 hours at the dealer included checking out 2015 4Runners, and test drive of 2013 and 2011 model, both limited. 2011 had 70k miles and I wanted to see how it is holding up interiorand overall. Negotiations lasted all of 25 minutes
2. When did I say something negative about 4R?
3. So far I visited 1 dealership, and about contacted about 8 more for a quote via email. Same runaround. not a single number.
4. Dumbo - dealer said test drive JC for as long as you want, come back when you are ready and gave me keys to 2 cars. I just like you took it as forever and still have that car on dealer plates...
5. Yes first time posting but I think I saw every MG post / what did you do today / and price related posts.

In my search for 4Runner I visited Infiniti dealer (2010 SR5/leather/SR, 45k), Lexus (2010 SR5, 2011 Limited had ~42k), Nissan dealer (2011 SR5, MG, 48k)
These were all test drives to see/drive various models in order to evaluate if they are holding up well. Quality Engineer in me requires that, nothing like real time aging to evaluate product performance over time. All positive experiences, all offered to give me a car for a weekend. Did not take that offer as it was early in my search/research

I made a decision to go with NEW 2015 4Runner Limited, as prices for used with 40k are within $5K of new. Seems like a simple process: lease NEW 2015, no trade-in, no down payment, credit score near the top. All I want is a fair price quote that should be about $41-$41.5, plus fees (need to know those to avoid surprises), option to buy at lease end (residual) and MF. Basic lease breakdown worksheet. I will be including one I got from Jeep with my next emails so Toyota sales force can see how it can be done.

Why no down payment or why no pay in cash (if I was to buy) - $44k * 10% annual return rate = $4400/year in my pocket. Stupid to even put $1000 down with rates this low!

If I could only lease a Toyota from Jeep/Lexus dealership :trophy:

All cars break down, talking of 4Runner like they never break is plain stupid.
