DIY Bluetooth/Voice Command steering wheel button install (pics)........for REAL

so which one is it, B0 or B1?! i picked up an e7009 today and would like to install the BT options.

Also, what are y'all using for a mic? i think i would like to go aftermarket due to better sound quality (so i've read) and cheaper. trying to keep this as OEM looking as possible.

The BT controls that matched my steering wheel and left side controls was part number 84244-35030-B1.

As far as the mic, I am using the OEM BT mic (546-74120-mc). IMO the sound quality is much better than the USA-Spec BT35 bluetooth mic I was using before. Never had any complaints when taking phone calls. I mounted mine on top of the steering column below the odometer. As you know, I am using the 2013 Scion Bespoke Pioneer unit so I am not sure if this mic would work with the e7009 unit.

Yeah! B0 will be just fine. Or as I told you before, just go to dealership and they wil tell you, there is no charge for it.

Depends. Does your factory NAV have Bluetooth? If not, then this mod will not work, at least not with your NAV. You will have to replace it with a unit that is BT capable. Your NAV does not have the hardware. Signals from the buttons will transmit to NAV, but nothing will happen.

2008 4Runner SR5 V6 right side Bluetooth Controls

So I have a 2008 4Runner SR5 with what looks like the dark grey buttons for the radio on the left side of the steering wheel. i just installed a Kenwood DNX692 along with the PAC SWI-RC Steering Wheel Control Adapter and the right side buttons work great with the new Kenwood Head Unit. I want to add the Bluetooth control buttons to the right side of the steering wheel and use them with the Kenwood head Unit. What would I need to order? It sounds like I would need the following:

84244-35030-B1 - steering wheel buttons

84204-58010 - Ribbon cable to connect to left side radio controls.

I see some confusion on whether I would nee the 84244-35030-B0 or 84244-35030-B1. Has anyone done this with the 2008 and what is the correct part number for the dark grey on the 2008?

2003-2009 the steering wheels are the same i believe.

The B1 is what you want as it's the dark grey. B0 is a lighter grey if memory serves.

Thanks! I have been calling around to a few Toyota Parts dealers and nont of them have a SKU for the B1 item number. They only have the B0. Perhaps in 2008 the dark charcoal was the only color available.

So I'm having a Hell of a time finding these buttons online...I'm looking for the: 84288-35030-BO and have used Sparks Toyota but not today...seems like the item number doesn't exist...Any ideas?

Also, Is the ribbon already located in the steering wheel or is that an additional purchase?

I ordered the buttons (84244-35030-BO) from Toyota Partznet without a problem. My work blocked that site, otherwise I'd give you a direct link to the part.

The ribbon (84204-58010) is not already in your steering wheel. You need to order that as well.

EDIT: Check the part number! The second and third 8's should be 4's. I corrected my post and the part numbers match the first post and my order form from Partznet.

After all said and done, I was tallied up to about $105 shipped...seems legit to me!

This mod has nothing to do with the Cruise control. The buttons are used to replace the blanks on the right side of the steering wheel. The ribbon cable attaches to the "BT buttons" and to the volume buttons on the left.

"Collision Catalog 2009 Toyota 4Runner steering column, steering wheel, steering wheel & trim, cruise switch all Right". Mine was around $70.

There is NO way to install this without removing the airbag.

No specific years, all ribbons seem to work for all 03-08 4Runners.

EDIT: BT buttons will work IF your rig came with volume buttons on the left side.

If your 4Runner doesn't have the right side buttons, it doesn't have the ribbon. If you want the buttons, buy both parts.

I've been following this thread with interest because I'd like to have factory BT phone capability in my '03. I have a Sony HU in another vehicle with the mic but the quality leaves much to be desired. Once I purchase and install the Scion FR-S radio along with the laundry list of parts, I'll go ahead and purchase the two items mentioned in this thread.

I'm curious if anyone is going to install the factory mic which I think is located near the sunroof controls, not sure exactly? Is there a connector already there for the vehicles that don't have the factory hands free calling feature?

Subspd, I believe you will need a module that enables the aftermarket HU to make use of the steering wheel controls...I just got my package in with the ribbon and buttons and look to install this this evening...the wife is getting an aftermarket HU with BT and backup cam that will retain the use of the steering wheel controls with the PAC module...or Metra...I'm not certain which yet...Nonetheless, it's possible.
