DIY Cladding Color Change...seeking advice/opinions

My 2000 4Runner is black with the Topaz cladding (flares, etc) on the bottom. I'm wanting to change it to black myself with rattle cans. I'm just not sure if I should use: a. Paint, b. Plasti Dip, or c. bed liner.

Any advice anyone can offer would be appreciated, especially if it comes from personal experience!

A lot of people have done it different ways. I went the Plasti-dip and Duplicolor spray paint route. I did it that way so I could eventually revert it back to stock if I wanted down the line. I just cleaned the bumpers, cladding and flares with soap and water and taped it all off. It came out pretty good, some mess ups, but good enough for me. One downside of plasti-dip is it isn't the easiest to repair.

Others like SantaCruzRunner have done the sand, primer and paint route and kailuz did the bedliner. Good luck!

remember the gaskets. Id just get new ones. I am also contemplating this same thing, but Im thinking of going white eventually. No white gaskets available i think, so its either dye them or get new ones.

Plastidip is very popular stuff. I know you mentioned wanting to rattle can it, but how about removing it all and having it rhino lined or something? You might could save by doing the prep work yourself.

If I was in your position I wouldn't rule out adhesive vynyl. Because the surface wouldn't come out splotchy if your not the best painter. Plus its a lot more. Durable than plastidip and if you wamted you could remove it. Although you might have to rnmove the flares to do it right. Just my 2 cents
