DIY: Gobi Stealth Roof Rack/Ladder Install

Haha where I live I'm pretty sure those rubber pieces were toast after day two in the sun. So maybe now is a good time to replace them with something better? Be careful, I regret bringing a grinder close to my front bumper
Did you check the bolts that hold the ladder to the bracket up top? Maybe it shifted there or maybe the whole bracket that gets stuck to the spoiler? Before you pull out the angle destroyer check those

My Gobi arrived last Tuesday, installed the following day. The install took around 3hrs with all the prep and mocking up. Got the wind deflector lined up perfectily on the first go with no whistle (did a highway test). The rack is set up with a Rigid RDS 40" Midnight Series. This form was a massive help with the install process. What are people doing with wiring down the windshield channel? The wire housing is so thick it will not seat nicely in the groove, although it doesn't move even at highway speeds

Are people removing the housing and then heat shrinking + / - separately?

Is there a trick to lifting rack to the 1/4" recommended for the A mounts? I have the B and C mounts tight, and the most I can flex the rack is 1/8" at best. Do I just loosen the B (and possibly C) mounts to allow more play?

you wont be able to lift a 1/4" if everything is tight, loosen other mounting points and should be good

remove the housing and just run the 2 wires separate....red first followed by black so you dont see the red.

You guys realize the rack mounting bolts are grounded, right? Save yoursef the trouble with the black wire and ground it to one of those bolte with a ring terminal. Cover with liquid electrical tape. Waterproof, removable, pretty as TitanPat in a bikini.

I ordered my Gobi rack through Trail Duty on Sept. 13. Then I ordered hi-lift mounts on October 10th. I received the mounts a couple weeks later. I called Gobi today to check status of rack and they said the mounts will be mailed out today. I got those already! I need my rack! Apparently the order number from the receipt I received when I purchased my rack brings up the mounts. What kind of crappy system do they have which crosses orders. Gobi says they have to do more research and call me back. I'll call them 4-5 times a day until they fix this mess. I should of listened and ordered a rack from someone else.

18 weeks later and 4 phone calls to fix order mixup but my rack finally arrived. Worth the headaches. Thanks for this write up. I have no wind noise due to installing the wind deflector more vertical then stated in the instructions.

Supposedly my rack was shipped last week, but seems like it went into a black hole. Gobi is no help, hard to get them to return a phone call. Anyone with a Gobi on the east coast, how long did the transit take?

Gobi told me 4-5 days, I figured at least a week. Would be nice to get at least a ballpark, I'll need to take a day off for delivery.

Much longer than 4-5 days. More like 5-10 min. Freight, iirc. They'll call you to schedule final delivery

Long Island here. Once Gobi told me it was shipped it took about 5 business days until the shipping company called to schedule delivery for the upcoming week. I had it delivered within 2 days of the phone call.

It has arrived without notice, but i guess i shouldn't be surprised at this point. I will be installing tomorrow with a buddy since its going to be a balmy 40 and cloudy in Chicago.

Any ideas on how to handle the "curing" of the silicone? I am in Chicago as well and my rack has been sitting in the box since early December. We had one good warm day not too many days ago, but I am not sure how long it takes to cure. Especially since I read somewhere on this forum that it needs to be 70 degrees to cure. This sucks!!

Not a big deal. I installed mine a couple days after new years when it was in the low 40's. good luck with the install, you looking at around 3hrs

I used 3M Marine Grade Silicone Sealant (#08019) and it recommends application between 40-90 degrees and curing at 70 degrees and 50%RH (relative humidity). A 1/4" bead becomes tack-free in 5-10 min and cures in 24hrs.

Thanks Kris and Zach....I will give that product a look. I have access to a heated garage, but not long enough or warm enough to get to 70 degrees for any length of time. Not unless I want to pay my buddy to crank the heat
