DIY Painting 4runner Parts

What do you guys paint on your 4runners?

1. Do you guys have a professional paint some of the parts on your 4runner?

2. Do you guys ever paint certain or all the peices needed to be painted on your 4runner?

3. What do you guys do to Prep the surface before you paint it?

4. Are spray paint cans good enough, or would it be smart to get a paint gun?

5. How many coats of primer, base coat, clear coat do you guys do?

6. How do you get perfectly matched paint, like Black, and is it cheap?

7. Is it safe to paint calipers or exaust pipes, or other items that can get hot?

8. Can you paint the interior of your 4runner, or is it just a sloppy mess that would be dumb to preform?


9. Also, if you guys do paint certain parts of your 4runner's, What paint do you recomend using for each peice?

I've done it all myself.

2. Do you guys ever paint certain or all the peices needed to be painted on your 4runner?

Front bumper and rear bumper, wheels, brake calipers.

3. What do you guys do to Prep the surface before you paint it?

Prep. Prep. Prep. Smithing and cleaning the surface as best as possible, scuffing it up etc so the paint adheres.

4. Are spray paint cans good enough, or would it be smart to get a paint gun?

I've done my paint via spray cans, but if you're gonna do a lot... Buy a spray gun.

5. How many coats of primer, base coat, clear coat do you guys do?

Most people have different opinions, also depends on the products you use. I would use the manufacturers recomended amounts.

6. How do you get perfectly matched paint, like Black, and is it cheap?
Paint matching at a local shoppe or autoparts store, or toyota.
Prices depend on the paint..

7. Is it safe to paint calipers or exaust pipes, or other items that can get hot?

Yes I've painted my calipers and they are holding up well. Use paint designed to withstand high temperatures.

8. Can you paint the interior of your 4runner, or is it just a sloppy mess that would be dumb to preform?

There's products made by POR-15 to stain leather into a new color, it's a very time consuming process. It's all plastic inside so proper prep would be required. I'd recommend pulling the interior if you're gonna do it...

9. Also, if you guys do paint certain parts of your 4runner's, What paint do you recomend using for each peice?

I use rustoleum and VHT haha. Pretty much all I use. I'd find a good plastic paint.
