I wouldn't spend that much for 70 amps. I got mine from Quality Power, 160 amps for $300. Its a rebuilt Denso. I used caliper paint to match my calipers & drums.
People have had reliability problems with the GM alt & it's not plug & play.

Yeah I am not looking at going crazy with that high end alternator anymore. Is it worth it to buy another Denso, as opposed to buying one from Autozone?

Like I said, OEM for $240 is not worth it to me. For another $60 I got the 160 amp alt. My experience with auto part stores is that you end up replacing it every year or 2 so you're not saving money in the long run. Buy once cry once.

However, there's a lot to be said for an OEM alternator that lasts more than 14 years like mine did. I think I replaced it in 2015. I decided to stick to OEM again in hopes for another 14plus years.

Agreed, I got 16 years out of mine. I still have to install my Big 3 wire upgrade & get a winch so I have the power waiting. My headlights no longer dim when I crank my stereo. :naughty:

The Oddssey is nice & I wanted a Die Hard Platinum but they've been discontinued. I'm running the Exide Extreme 24FX. Its bad ass & only $100 @ Home Depot or Tractor Supply. I dare anyone to find a better specced battery for anywhere near that price.

Haven't been around for while, sorry for not responding. The upper bolt tab cracked on it and I had to go back to my original. The original mount is about 2" thick. This one was about 1/2" and uses a spacer to fill in the rest. I was going to call and see if they would do any thing about it, but since I was the second owner and it's a couple years old I didn't see much hope.
When I upgrade, I'll do a rewired Denso or something similar.

Picked up this battery today, it's longer than the stock group 24 battery. Is there a longer bottom tray we can source to secure the base of the battery?

been dealing with noisy belt actually thought it was my ps belt. Took things apart today and replaced it put things back together. Still there, then noticed that my alternator belt was loose so I went to tighten it. The adjuster bolt is frozen. I could remove it by removing the other bolts pulled it out and have is soaking in PB Blaster. I hope this works as it is winter and my daily driver. I read though this post looking for part number to just replace. comment. I have 2002 with 136k now. I have a 2010 battery original alternator all works good. I can't believe the battery has lasted this long. when if mine goes I will have it rebuild locally. It is cheaper than rebuilt and it is still a Toyota part. the truck has always started. If you have a place that still does this kind of work I recommend it. the old guy has been doing this work for ever. I took my first alternator or starter to him 35 years ago. he guarantees his work for a year. I had my Porsches starter redone 6 years ago, still good. alternator for the supra 2 years ago, still good.
update adjuster didn't want to free up. I ordered new from an online Toyota dealer $12 shipped from Virginia. they didn't really have on hand ordered direct from Toyota so it took 2 extra days to ship to me so a full week. in any case all is good now no squeak. I will continue to soak old one so it could be used else where when and if needed.

not trying to bring this back from the dead, but I just used this guide and had some notes-
-the electrical plug: Anyone who's having trouble with removing this, save it for last. Remove everything else first and then you can flip the alternator on it's side so you can go at this piece from above... with vice grips if needed to hold the tab in so you can then wiggle the hell out of it.
-A rubber mallet, a breaker bar, and a socket extension helped tremendously for my install and removal. I had to give some love taps to get the top bolt holes lined up, and I would not be able to just manhandle this into place without the extra motivation. Removing the battery makes sense if going this route, as you'll have room to actually swing the thing.
-re-assembly: I was having a hell of a time getting the bottom bolt through the bracket and the alternator mounting hole. I couldn't get anything to line up, so I actually took the top pivot bolt out completely, loosely attached this bolt from under the truck, and then put the pivot bolt back in.
Great write up though, first alternator I've ever done and it was relatively painless thanks to you.

I made a little device that I use to push the sleeve for the top bolt flush with the inside of the top mount to make instal much easier.

I don’t think tyc was ever an oem supplier of alternators. I’d go with a denso reman if you aren’t going to rebuild your own.
