DIY: Roof Rack Delete (w/ pics)

Just out of curiosity, does anyone else have an issue with the plastic covers from the kit not lining up well with the weather stripping?

Curious here to, did the install, all arrows out, but the covers are all not inline with black weather strip on the roof. Does yallz line up perfectly?

Same issue here lol, I have a small gap on the outside edge on all 4 covers

I tried doing this today and got scared a couple of bolts in that it was stripping the threads. Its much harder on the Pro as the bolts are torx 40 whereas as on the other models racks the bolts are standard socket heads.

The effort to remove them was too much, too much torque required actually broke one bit. Some came out easier, some would get so hard partially threaded out that something seemed off. Still like to remove the ugly things of my '19 pro. Must be loctitie on these bolts for the pro rack. I did this on my '18 landcruiser and it was a piece of cake.

Any ideas?

I just did this on my PRO. Followed some great You Tube videos and BINGO, one of those stupid torx heads stripped. 7 of 8 came just fine. For such a high-end vehicle, Toyota felt the need to use cheap metal torx bolts. So, now, I drilled the stripped head off and tried everything from torching the bolt itself to heat up the absurd amount of Loctite Toyota uses, to vice grips which even the needle nose type are too large to get in the space to remove the remaining threaded bolt stem, and even so, neither item, even with tape or rubber band wrapped around the stem for extra grip, is secure enough to get it out. I am now looking to this forum for how to remove the headliner without damaging it and twisting the entire gasket it is screwed into as a leverage to get it out from the bottom. If anyone has any info on headliner removal related to these PRO racks, please help. This hopefully gives you some help. If I could have ordered my PRO new, I would have requested it without the darn rack. UGh!!!

Great write up, I ordered and installed the roof rack delete kit. I want to also warn about using a screwdriver even with a rag I managed to put a small dent in the upper roof area below the cover, I used a plastic dent tool to pry the covers off after seeing what I had done. Good thing I bought the paint/dent insurance, they will remove that dent I knobheadingly put on my vehicle. Reason I removed the rack, it's silver, nothing on my truck is silver, and I will never have a need to use it, and as others have mentioned, it's a pain to wash/wax the roof with that rack in the way.

I want to either remove and paint or replace with a black factory rack, the rack on my 2012 SR5, or remove it completely and replace with a Gobi.

Anyway, your truck looks great and I also want to get rid of all the chrome.

I ordered the Toyota OEM rack delete kit off of Amazon, but I’ve since added antennas and decided to keep my side rails on.

It may as well get used and not sit around in my garage, so if one of the members here is interested, shoot me a PM.

I bought the Toyota kit and am wondering where are you supposed to apply the sealant? On the bolts (threads) or around the white plastic inserts?
