DIY: Steering wheel replacement with black wood wheel

I did it as well. but it wasnt the 300+ one on CarID nor is it a gx470 one. I did consider the gx470 one, but I saw that they were around 600+ used on ebay. (from my research, i believe that gx470 steering wheels are a direct swap into our 4th gen 4runners, not sure about the landcruiser/LX though)

Got it locally in the bay area, bought/installed for $200

I sat in my friend's gx470, and I must admit that the OEM Lexus steering wheel feels much nicer than the one I got, but not 3 times the price nicer.

All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase and I would do it again if I could.

What pushed me over the edge to get this one was A: it was a piano finish, I don't love wood.... well not that kind of wood lol. B: thumb grips and C: perforated leather!

All this talk about it makes me excited to get it!

soo, you got it a local shop? Got a name? Maybe they sell online? I got a wood steering wheel for my Surfs, but I can't remember the company. It was about $450 (back in 2003-04). Excellent fit and finish.

I didn't even realize its a Land Cruiser steering wheel!

The LC100 (the LC200 steering wheel seems to be somewhat different, so I don't know how well it will fit if its for a LC200) is one of the vehicles that shares the same steering wheel profile as the 4Runner, Highlander, GX470, ect. My stepdad has a LX470 (aka Lexus LandCruiser as its 95% Landcruiser with Lexus Badges) and his steering wheel is the same shape, size, and profile as my 4th gen; I just ran out to the driveway to make sure.

So the good news is that it should be no issue to fit (as long as its meant for a GX470/LC100, the LC200 seems to be different based on pictures I looked at in terms of the 3 & 9'oclock bar thicknesses,) the only issue might be that the leather doesn't exactly match the airbag cover; but we'll find that out when the OP gets it installed.

very interested in this. My dad swapped his chevy silverado wheel to a denali wheel and looks like similar styling to that one. I love driving with it. Would love to add to mine.

The shop is run by a mandarin couple so there's a good chance that the steering wheels are made in china, but looking at the ebay post above this one, that one seems to be made in china as well

also, if the ebay wheel is a direct swap (and it seems like it is), that means you'll still have your steering wheel controls and your airbag!

PS: When installing, make sure you unplug the battery, you do NOT want to accidentally trigger the airbag while installing!
