love this thread. I'm quite envious of your skills, you've done a lot of great looking work.

I'm going to have to get my LCA bushings, bolts, and cams replaced at some point and I'm not looking forward to it. Mostly because I know I don't have the skills to do it myself, and I will get absolutely bent over the barrel 99% of places that would do it. Sigh.

Looking back, I really wish I had just gone with new LCAs instead of replacing the bushings. To this day, it still isn't right in there. I think the bushing cup may have gotten too hot during the removal.

I highly recommend picking up the cheapest set of LCAs you can find on eBay. They can be had for like $200. They often come with a 5+ year warranty, too!

Thanks for the input. Frankly, I hadn't thought about going that route after I found out that OEMs were in the 600+ range. There are Detroit Axle sets on eBay for 150 bucks with 10 year warranty. That doesn't seem too bad. If I can find a decent mechanic that won't gouge me it shouldn't be too bad of a deal.

I would go with those! And only use OEM cam bolts. I know they're pricey, but you're better off in the long run. They are made out of hardened steel for s reason.

Replacing the LCA actually isn't that hard. Just inform him that he will have to cut them out. Anything more than 4 hours labour for remove/replace is unreasonable.

Quite sturdy, actually. It's cross braced, and mounted to 1/4" brackets with 8 u-bolts. The only issue I've had with it is some minor flexing in the middle of the rack when I had a few hundred pounds up there. It flexed enough to touch the roof, but did not cause any damage.

Love that winch setup. I'm probably in the minority here, but just not fond of the looks of the big metal bumpers. I don't do enough wheeling to justify it, but would be nice to have a winch just in case. Great job on everything. Sure wish I had two skills...welding and bodywork. Would have saved me a CRAPload of money on my Triumph TR4 restoration.

Forgot to mention, I ditched my super sagged FJ springs and installed some OME 885s and some 1/4" top out spacers. Well, actually, the driver's side one was 3/8" to make up for some of the lean. I didn't really take any pictures, install was straight forward.

I gained about 1.5" of lift on each side, setting me at 4" of total lift including 1" body lift. Perfect.

(still flexes too, which is nice)
