Do ALL 4runner have ECT?

Haha, this is my second 4runner and realized that my ECT button didnt work.

Took off the center dash today and noticed it didnt work because there was no plug going into it.

So yes the button is there but not plug for it.
I've looked and looked for a empty harness but all of them are in use on for my HVAC, defog, hazards..

so i just figured maybe i dont have ECT for this one. LOL

After writing this thread to find out if anyone else has no ECT im thinking there has to be.. why would i have an empty switch teasing me..

i have No ECT, but I do have the button now since I swapped in a console from a more heavily equipped runner.
 
I may be talking outta my @$$ here, but I would assume all 3rd gens had them? My aunt's old '88 camry even had one. If you don't, you're not missing much. I have one on mine and I don't notice a thing when I turn it on. Maybe mine's broke.
 
Doesn't it just change the shift points to higher up in the RPM range? That's the only difference I've noticed is that it will shift pretty close to red line.

Yes. Use it for towing, long grades, and for an immediate kickdown out of overdrive when passing grandma on the freeway.
 
Yea, I've had it before on my 97 and I do like its more responsive feel of it which is why I miss it.
I know for sure manuals don't have it as shift points can't be adjusted being its manual and also I can for sure this statement because I had a manual 4runner as well.

But eh if there is one to be found, ill find it in my dash as I was almost certain.

But funny to see a 4runner without one from the above member.
Base base model?

x2 on that! I that that all automatics had that button!
 
I think you are referring to the O/D off button. I always run my switch since I'm running bigger tires. Seems to help with the lugging. The ECT switch doesn't kick off overdrive...it just gives you higher RPM shift points.

My overdrive button was sticky, I tried not use it :). At 2600 RPM or thereabouts, I could tap the ECT button and shift out of OD without having to touch the throttle or shifter.
 
im definitly not reffering to overdrive, the ECT really was a much nicer drive IMO.
i havent found the time to go looking for the harness yet, but just curious if anyone else had no ECT.
but im sure it does just need to find..
i mean i can live without it.

but i want it :)
 
That comment wasn't directed at you. It was for KidVermicious. I always run with my ECT on. It doesn't bog down between shifts as bad now that I'm running heavier tires. Hey KidV, are you referring to your '85 4Runner doing that...or your wife's '99? Switching my ECT on and off never causes it to downshift. No matter what speed or RPM I'm at. Might be a different system for an older model.

oh oops haha all good!

still havent found the harness.. i give up.. ill live without it.
