Do I HAVE to get a Toyota part for diff mod?

All the posts I have seen say to get toyota part number XXXXX, can I not just go to any autoparts store and get the threaded barb fitting?

Any one have any info? Going on my 1st off road experience this Sunday want to get it done before then.

I assume you mean breather and any appropriate sized breather valve will work but you need a union and some fuel line to relocate it. People have used other parts. Buying Toyots just means you don't have to actually know the size off hand (why I went that way).

Also means you don't want to buy a barbed fitting with pipe thread and instead purchase the proper sized threaded barbed fitting.....

If you look at my build, follow the link and it will give you the proper part # from Toyota that will match the one you remove from your diff!

You can do exactly that, a barbed nipple from any hardware store will work too, and cost less. The thread Toyota uses doesn't exactly match NPT, or it doesn't on the early axles anyway, but you can get it close enough and a little medium threadlocker or teflon tape will keep it sealed.
