Do I need a dash kit to fit a double din deck into my 08 sr5?

Hello all,

I just bought a Pioneer AVIC-X940BT deck for my 08 SR5 and was wondering do I need a dash kit for this? The deck is a double din (4 inches) as is the stock one, so do I need a dash kit to fit the deck into the car or is it just plug & play?

Mostly you just take the mounting brackets off the old unit and use them to mount the new one but it depends on the shape of the new unit so just try it and see. I installed a DVD player with video screen in my '04 and had to get a kit that consisted of just 2 little black plastic spacers about 1/2" wide that fit along the sides to fill in some empty space. It also came with the wiring pigtail to connect to the vehicles wiring harness for $9 on ebay. If in doubt you can also check the website on Crutchfield to see what you need.

It looks like you will also need a steering wheel control interface to connect your car's steering wheel audio controls to the aftermarket stereo, if you want to keep that function, an iPod adapter for an iPod, an XM tuner for satellite radio and HD radio tuner for HD radio. Bluetooth seems to be the only thing built-in on this unit. I think it's better to get a stereo with all the functions you want built-in instead of needing a lot of extra boxes though because there's no place to put all the boxes.

yes you need a dash kit, i get everything from best kits, and the kit being BKTTR992, and then depending on the sound system in there now, if its basic system then you just need the BHA1761 harness, but it its premium you need the TATO harness from pac-audio. also the steering wheel control can be found at pac-audio, either the SWI-PS or SWI-RC. I work for future shop installing car audio and we use theses parts all the time. You can just go to bestkits.com and pac-audio.com and put in the truck n check it out. all these parts are great quality and reliable and look good! good luck

Bestkits is way over priced compared to ebay. $24.94 for 2 plastic spacers is outrageous!

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll post up my results after doing some research.

I was able to find out that I needed the METRA 95-8202 Dash Kit to properly mount the deck.

METRA 70-1761 Harness for wiring

I also found that the PAC SWI-PS Steering Wheel Radio Control Interface will make the stock steering wheel buttons still work along with the stock AUX jack

The METRA 70-8114 Harness is also needed.

Hey how do you guys like this unit?? Im thinking about getting the same one.

Would you say its easy to install for a Noob?
I would also like to keep my steering controls, was that bit easy to do?
Does yours work when you are driving?
