out of curiosity i googled it but only read one article

If the gun is used to intentionally commit a crime, to kill or injure someone, the court will not impose civil liability on the gun owner for the acts of a third person. Again, under the proximate cause doctrine, the actions of the thief would supersede the negligence of the gun owner, cutting off his liability

The courts...generally view the shooting another person as unforeseeable act for a lawful gun owner who simply forgot to secure their weapon. "It's unfair and unjust to hold that person responsible

a gun owner could find him or herself in court if the stolen gun is negligently discharged. LeCesne described it as any subsequent use of the gun that injures because of lack of reasonable care: sticky-fingered kids goofing around, someone picking up the weapon and accidently pulling the trigger or a fumbling thief who doesn't know how to use a gun

The question is whether the gun owner could have reasonably foreseen that the weapon could accidently harm someone if left unsecured. It's similar to leaving a gun lying around in the open.

i store mine in a manner where it could not accidently go off. often times its in a locked glove box, safety on, no rounds chambered and magazine in a separate location. i never leave vehicle unlocked or firearm in plain site.

Why would you leave it in the vehicle? If I can't take it with me they don't need my business.

My toyota dealership has 30.06 and 30.07 plastered on every window. It is irritating to say the least.
That's when you go to the next dealership and buy from them. Drive it over to that dealership and call the manager and tell him to look out the window to take a look at the sale they missed out on.

There are actually gun safes made for specific vehicles either under seat or console or glove box, I have a lockable and secured in mine which is bolted to the 4R so even if they find the it, they cannot just take the whole thing. Kind of pointless unless it is bolted in.

Toyota 4 Runner

I've seen those..pretty slick

I know this thread is pretty old but here's my input. I open carry as I'm not old enough to get my concealed yet, but I work in some rough areas and drive a nice vehicle. I don't carry at places like school or other places that forbid it, but I do usually carry. I would much rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. This world is a crazy place full of crazy people. When it comes to home defense I am much more armed with 2 handguns, an AR-15, and a 12 gauge shotgun in my room. There is nothing wrong with arming yourself as long as long as you understand the responsibility that comes with it.

AMEN I will be getting my dad's 9mm 1911 in a year for my 21st birthday present and I plan to get my concealed as soon as I can after that

I don't mean to single you out but this was a point I wanted to bring to the table. What if the situtaion arose where Jane Doe with a gun was overpowered by a perp and he turned it on her. Now the gun intended to protect her is endangering her. Would it not be better to just not have a gun in the equation to begin with? I doesn't have to be the situation above, it's just the whole idea of being overpowered and have your own gun turned on you.

Personally I don't judge anyone who drives with a gun, I don't because I'm fortunate to live in an really safe rural community but I could see the need more in the city.

Honestly tho, i'm slightly alarmed at the amount of people who do, I really hope there's a lot police officer on this forum but either way I'll think twice about cutting anyone off when if take a trip into the states

There are lots of Cops that drive 4runners and Gx460's(I'm one of them). Remember that bad people with guns kill people- not the guns themselves. All the laws to restrict guns just keep law abiding citizens from protecting themselves and their families, Remember BAD people don't adhere to laws especially gun laws. Just my 2 cents.

When I lived in Washington, I used to carry an unloaded .357 in a modified holster under my seat with ammo at the ready. Was too poor and didn't have enough time to get my ccw lol. Luckily the only thing it came in handy for was racking up cans out in the woods.

Always carry, to many unknowns not too

I grew up in Metro Detroit. Things happen to quickly not to carry.

I drive 30k miles a year, visiting family, work, and general activities. Don't leave home with out it.

If I get road rage, the gun is the last thing to come out unless I see one first.

I actually find that having a gun makes me less likely to road rage. I don't want to start a fight with someone if I have the means to put a deadly end to it. De-escalating situations is part of being a responsible gun owner, and carrier.

That's what I noticed with myself after I got my CHL and started carrying.

My favorite part of this poll is that 87.3% of people either carry a WEAPON or WANT to, and over 80% carry a GUN or WANT to.

This should be quite the wake up to any snowflakes on the forum.

So let the majority be heard. So let it be written.
