Dear OP,

From your description it sounds like you've been putting stuff on the truck but haven't actually used it yet. Take it out for a weekend camping and off-roading and report back whether you feel 'bored with your T4R' or not.

The goal I set last year upon purchasing my truck was to take it out once a month. Since then I've dialed that back to once every other month because I use the 'off' months to hang parts and upgrades. With a little luck next year I might achieve the goal of getting it off-road once a month and then a major trip over the summer. Only time will tell.

Every time I drive deeper into the mountains on a trail that is more difficult than the last I'm even more impressed with it. The 4Runner truly is a Utility vehicle built to haul people and gear off road. If you're not using it for that purpose then it's no surprise that you're bored with it. Load it up with camping gear, drive it through rocks and mud, and find a beautiful place that no one else can get to. Then maybe you'll appreciate it for what it is.

I definitely need to go there. I go to Lake George every summer. I am down in Westchester County but moving to Putnam County this summer.

You either are the type of guy who likes a lot of different cars and has car ADD or not. And, if you do.... theres nothing wrong with it as long as you're ok losing money on the trade ins or buying/selling (not to mention modyfying, which most likely you do if you go through a lot of cars).

I personally maintain 3 cars plus a motorcycle at any given time, which gets old and expansive (BMW, Porsche, Ducati). Worst part of it is the time involved so eventually I sell everything and enjoy the time and financial burden gone.... Until I buy more junk b/c I'm always looking at new/other cars to buy.

I fantasize about just having one car, the car that checks all the boxes for me and trading in the runner on another G class (I have had two in the past) but this time on G55 or G63 to scratch the forced induction itch.

As far as 911s.... trust me, you will never get bored of it and can have plenty of fun in them on the street.

If you get bored and wanna trade it, trade it, you can always get another one.

You and I have strikingly similar interests!

I get bored on the day to day, but the Runner has clear benefits when it is being used for activities. I do really want a 911, however.

Haha was thinking the same thing. I think the ideal combination is ;

adventure car - 4runner
Sport car -- porsche
city commuter -- maybe bmw i3?

I always get bored of the truck but when I get to a place like Funnel Lake or a secluded campspot, I'm extremely happy with my purchase.

I've owned 3 vehicles.

2004 BMW 325i (first car)
2015 Honda Accord Hybrid
2016 Toyota 4Runner Trail

I sold the Honda and I beat myself up for it every time im at the pump. That full size sedan got 50-55 mpg and 700mi/tank. My rate was 0.9% too (free money if you ask me). I really shouldnt have sold it, but I needed/really really really wanted a 4runner. I blame my young mind.

I still have the 04 325i thats pretty fun to drive. It only has 86k miles on it but still requires 91. So thats the base model weekend car.

I'm coming up on a year, and still have a few mods left that won't prevent all of my children from going to college....that said, still look back at it and get lots of looks. I had this older cat at a gas station just staring at it for like a minute and sort walk around it...and said "man that is an awesome truck" (of course I was at the gas pump...where a lot of awesome vehicles w/ AT tires sit) When I give this to one of my kids, I gotta go LC next...stay in Toyo family

I have a 4runner, still have my '97 M3 sedan that I bought in '06, and wife has a '13 Mini Cooper S. I like to think we ended up with interesting vehicles.

In 2015, I bought my TRD Pro Tacoma, and my wife got an SR5 Premium T4R. We both really loved our vehicles, and enjoyed driving them. This year we decided to change things up a bit however. My wife wanted a new car because she wanted a manual transmission...that was her only reason for getting out of the 4Runner. The original plan was to sell my truck and I'd keep the SR5. I always said that I'd get rid of my truck before I got rid of the 4Runner because I feel the T4R's are just all around nicer vehicles.

Turns out it was easier to trade my truck in on a new ORP and sell her SR5. My truck was just too heavily modified to sell easily (35's, gears, bumpers, etc.), and they gave me a VERY nice trade in on the truck. The wife is getting a new Subaru Crosstrek within the next week or so, and we also have a 1986 VW Vanagon. The next car purchase will be something sporty, and I think we'll have a pretty good stable for our interests.

All that being said, even though we changed trim levels, we still have a 4Runner in the family and likely always will.

T4R and Boredom

I don't get bored of my 4Runner but I fear it gets bored of me driving to and from the office.

Instead, it wants to be packed full with fishing and boat gear, then run and grab my drift boat and drag it around dirt roads up and down hills and dump it in the river down some gnarly, rock filled, rutted, 45% mud slide, masquerading as a boat ramp.

Oh it really likes to be covered in mud and caddis and mayfllys.

Wanting a Mustang GT 5.0

Been thinking about it for a week, but when I look at how practically impractical my TR4 is, it's tough to give up. And to think about all of the performance potential that can't be used in today's performance cars... crazy!

Maybe I can talk the GF into a GT? :heh::heh:

Only thing that gets me bored is the lack of articulation / lift that you can put on it without spending a stupid amount of money. Some of the trails I want to hit I just can't because truck won't make it.

Hmmm,, didn't buy it for entertainment. Bought it to get from point A to point B reliably and capably. So bored, no. Of course I'm that guy who will run a car for 20 years before getting a new one.

Interesting. I just traded my 2014 Silverado Double Cab for a 2018 Limited.

I really liked the Silverado, but as I have gotten older (69) parking spots have gotten smaller. :lol:

I'll miss the utility of the truck but not the wide turning radius.

Trucks are alot like Boats there is not a"one size fits all" type. I have always owned a truck, and I have always owned a boat. But through the years My boating interest have changed so I adjust and get a boat that fits that interest. Example A tournament ski boat is not a fishing boat. A bass boat is not scuba dive boat. You get my point.
A SUV is not something you want to go pick up fertilizer on a Saturday morning and then go out for dinner in it on Saturday night.It smells like SH--. This is when a Pickup truck is handy. But if your loading up the family to take the boat out to water ski than the SUV will work out great. You can have both. I use my 4runner for recreation and not a daily driver. I use my old faithful F150 for my daily drives.
The silverados with the rear seats is a great compromise and may fit your needs better than the 4R. But like I said there is no "One size fits all" Good luck with the new rig. Chevy also has a forum.
