Do you ever get bored with your T4R?

This is an interesting thread for me. I've just come off of 17 years working at Ford and driving nothing but Ford's. I'm excited when my Ford Escape lease ends later this summer and I can buy anything I want. Everyday I change my mind on which direction I want to go, but continually come back to this forum. I'm also afraid of getting bored but keep thinking the resale value of the T4R will rescue me if I do. I will admit that the new Jeep is very interesting, but I have serious concerns about buying a 1st year FCA product. My family has 4 wheelers which scratch the off road itch, so an AWD convertible is also very attractive to me.

My wife drives a 17 Escape Titanium, and LOVES it. She is a sales rep, so she spends a lot of time in the driver seat. That car has been great for us. 2 years, and 50k miles.. not a single hiccup.

I drove a 14 F150 Lariat for a few years,and it was a great truck too.

I literally got out of my Tundra and into a 4Runner for the same reason you listed.. re sale value. I am positive equity on my 4Runner already, so I am just trying to enjoy it while I can. If I really get bored, I know I will come out on top when trading it in.

I looked at just about every SUV, and 4Runner took the cake. I really do like my 4Runner, for what it is, but just get bored for some reason. Not necessarily with the 4Runner itself, but more because I like change lol.

Trucks are alot like Boats there is not a"one size fits all" type. I have always owned a truck, and I have always owned a boat. But through the years My boating interest have changed so I adjust and get a boat that fits that interest. Example A tournament ski boat is not a fishing boat. A bass boat is not scuba dive boat. You get my point.
A SUV is not something you want to go pick up fertilizer on a Saturday morning and then go out for dinner in it on Saturday night.It smells like SH--. This is when a Pickup truck is handy. But if your loading up the family to take the boat out to water ski than the SUV will work out great. You can have both. I use my 4runner for recreation and not a daily driver. I use my old faithful F150 for my daily drives.
The silverados with the rear seats is a great compromise and may fit your needs better than the 4R. But like I said there is no "One size fits all" Good luck with the new rig. Chevy also has a forum.

I had a come to Jesus moment last night. I think I am going to hold onto the Runner a while longer. I have a 97 Sierra that I use for trips to Lowes and stuff.. but it is beat to hell. I think I will shop around for an 05 Sierra/Silverado to have for an errands/cruise around town truck.

Only thing that gets me bored is the lack of articulation / lift that you can put on it without spending a stupid amount of money. Some of the trails I want to hit I just can't because truck won't make it.

What trails are you trying to hit exactly? A few members on here have taken their slightly modded 4R on the Rubicon Trail with minimal damage. Any harder than that then you should just get a beater jeep or RZR.

I had a c class mercedes before my 4r. It was super fun to drive, but haven't missed it one bit since I got my TRD Pro

This is my first SUV...man i love it even after 7 years of ownership.

It has been super reliable, gas mileage doesn't suck too bad even with the 285's (19.1 MPG), and it's not too big of a vehicle despite being a 7 seater.

nothing wrong with the 97. just make sure the heater core has been replaced. you can get by without ac but the heater (defrost) will be an issue. These GM trucks are famous for heater core issues. been there done that. Just roll the windows down and go for it. Its all about having fun. enjoy your 4R
