Do you guys Lock up your Recovery Boards?

I saw some posts about theft so I was worried about keeping my boards on hand.

I was concepting picking up a cable lock,

to keep it tied down.

Thoughts? or am I overthinking?

Cable lock, locking mount, etc. Anything to DETER would help. If they really wanna steal things they could do it regardless.
Reassuring to know however, that thieves would get better return on investment (effort) by stealing someone's fancy smartphone than recovery board.

I was planning on using a couple of bicycle cable locks, the combination type. But a good cable cutter would make short work of them. If thieves want something bad enough they'll find a way. From what I understand it is illegal to electrify the vehicle so that if someone touches it they get knocked on their ass. Oh well !

Agreed, a cable lock is nice but if someone wants it they will take it. They also need to know what they are, and generally (I know this is arguable) people who do know what they are, likely aren't thieves. I live in Colorado, where built Tacos, FJ's, and 4Runners are everywhere...and I don't bother locking them. So far so good.

I knew plenty of kids growing up that would steal things just because they were not tied down. So if it was me, I would put a lock on them.

I lock them in my garage.... I don't drive around with my recovery boards on my rig. Only when I am headed out on a trip. If by chance I stay in a hotel I do have a cable lock but that's not often.

I like to look as cool as possible (that's like 90% of all of it, 93% if you're lucky) so I keep mine on Gobi. Bungee corded down and cable locked, twice, until I get get the locking mounts.

Mine are mounted flat on my Gobi on threaded rods and held down by wing nuts (not the political kind). They're not locked, but there's a couple inches of thread for each of the four wing nuts to twirl around before you can get boards off. Theyre a pita to get off, sure, but if I need them, i'm already in a pita situation. And i recon any jerk who wants to make off with unweildy, blaze orange "what-are-those-things" is going to get board before getting them off.

When i get my new rear bumper on i'll re-mount them the cool way: over the spare. Then I'll throw a cable lock on them better safe than sorry.

I usually lock my boards if I know I may have to leave the vehicle unattended anywhere. I'm probably going to drill and seal the cargo rails on my 5th gen in order to use the same method of securing as I use on my 4th gen. No bungee cords or cable locks to mess with.

Securing the boards consists of the items below;

Drilled out 2 of the 1/2" hitch pins to accept some small pad locks. I'm using quick pins on the other two.
