When I started smoking, in about 1970, a pack of cigs was 25 cents. Gas wasn't much more than that, maybe 35 or 40 cents a gallon for 93 octane. I do remember getting a six pack of beer, a pack of cigs and enough gas to cruise all night for less than $10.

Never smoked or even tried smoking in my entire life. Cant stand the smell on a persons breath or clothes. I have much better things id rather spend my money on (beer, mods, etc.)

LOL! That is what my brother and I referred to as the "hot box." Both parents have since quit. However, it was miserable back in the day. 30 now and my parents taught me to not smoke in a round about way!

That's so funny!!! Exact thing happened to me growing up. I never really knew how bad the smoke smelled on stuff til I moved out and went home for visits.

Nobody in my family smokes. The people that did all died from cancer. Most were horrible agonizing deaths. My daughter will never get spoiled by a grandmother or grandfather, tobacco killed them.

Second hand smoke is a class A carcinogen. It means that there is no safe level of exposure. Plutonium, Radon gas, Asbestos are also class A carcinogens.

Smoking should be banned from any place a nonsmoker may be exposed. One whiff of smoke may be enough to cause cancer, that is what a class A carcinogen is, pretty scary huh.

American lung association will verify my claim about the class A carcinogen if you don't believe me.

I know not good , hopefully wiull wise up before its to late. I've had friends and family die from cancer , strangely non were smokers. Great grand father died of lung cancer & never smoked , his son (my grandfather ) smoked for 67 years and just dies last yeaqr ay 95 y/o. Maybe if he did'nt smoke he would have made it to 96......Great man & i miss him.

Smoke Free Ohio

This week Ohio voters passed Issue 5 (Smoke Free Ohio) which prohibits smoking in places of employment and most public places. (There are a few exceptions).

Voters rejected Issue 4 (Smoke Less Ohio) which proposed a constitutional amendment and "restricted" smoking.

Issue 4 was proposed and backed by the tobacco companies (esp. R.J. Reynolds) while Issue 5 was backed by the American Cancer Society.

I had mixed feelings. While I don't particularly like the idea of restricting individual (smokers) rights, I am tired of avoiding certain establishments and events where my family and I are subject to smoke. I guess in a way the smokers are infringing on my rights. After seeing several family members (all of whom smoked) die of cancer - including my grandfather who had his larynx removed many years ago - I voted for Issue 5.

I will say that smokers now have more ammunition to argue against cigarette taxation being used for communal project funding. On the other hand corporate insurance rates are also higher because of smokers.

This heated topic will become more interesting.

Thai, I knew you doctors were in on the smoking and fast food industries, as they are interlinked with the drug companies as well. With the oil companies owning majority shares in the drug comapnies, which in turn are being manupilated by the CIA, who are managed by corrupt politicians, who are put in power with the money from proceeds from all of these companies, which is controlled by doctors, as a bribe to not let them tell the truth about fast food and smoking.

WOW, $4 to $10 a PACK??? We're not talking cartons here but a PACK!! Dang, I knew the prices had gone way up but I had no idea. The government (local/state/fed) is making a killing on these in taxes.

I know several women that smoke only when drinking and at no other time but then. I never got a good explanation of why only then but if you knew these particular women you'd understand. :bonk:

Just think if you smoke a pack a day at 5 dollars per day: 5 * 30 = 150 dollars per month! *12 months= 1800 dollars per year! Good god imagine how much stuff you can buy with that or how much more money you can get from investing that! What morons, money down the drain...

And well, women do bizarre things...because they are crazy...

And then babies came along..

I used to smoke using a similar pattern to Northof49. While my wife was pregnant I decided to reduce my smoke intake weening my self away from cigs in a period of 9 months. when my first child was born I stopped all together. A Doctor put it in simple terms. He said " look the lung capacity of new born is not much" he made a reference to the size of the lungs by touching middle finger with his thumb "the nicotine in a cigarrette after smoking it, impregnates your hair, shirt, and breath. So when you place the baby against your shoulder and pat his back, he is smelling the cigarrette smell and inhaling some of the nicotine, even if you do not smoke in the house, it still affects him. "
Well that was enough for me to stop my habit. I indulge my self from time to time with a cigar, or even one cigarrette, but every time I do I regret it.
