Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

The TRD Off Road Model specs shows that it has .6" more clearance than the base model, does that change things? If I go with the 302, 2" + .6", will that require an after market UCA?

Looking at these springs for the front.

C59-300 - Stock front end load, 1.75" lift. 385/385mm, 17mm wire, 586LB

C59-302 - 100-220LBS heavy load front weight, 2" lift. 395/395mm, 17mm wire, 586LB

Will these rear springs be a better option for the Off Road model - since the front is already .6" higher.

C59-505 - Stock rear end load, 1.25 to 1.5" lift. 405/405mm, 17mm wire, 220LB

So when unloaded, you have no constant weight on the truck? Roof rack, drawers, rear bumper, etc?

2889 coils are 400mm free height and 260LB/IN rate.

You could do our 325's to run a reduced rate than what you currently have, but it all depends on your daily loaded weight, and then how often you load up. If your truck does sit level fully loaded, then it would be ass-down if you go with a softer coil and then add the same weight.

So please correct any confusion. If the 889s are 400mm and 260lb, then your C59-725 would be even taller, but softer? Also your C59-727 would be even stiffer, and still taller than than my current 889s.

Unloaded for camping, I have a extended Frontrunner rack and rear "cooler" slides. The cooler (~25lbs) also pretty much lives there. No bumper.

Almost everyone running 2.5" front lift is running stock UCA's. While it won't ride as good as if you had aftermarket UCA's on there, it still works.

And all stated lift heights have to allow for vehicle variances, so some may be lifted over their stock height by more than others. Or lifted less than others too.

But what weight are you adding to the front? C59-300 are 2" lift with no weight, C59-302 are 2.5" lift with no weight, or 2.0" with weight. Weight is everything when it comes to coil springs.

Yeah, add a taller coil, you don't need as much spring rate to do the job. If a coil can't be too tall, it must be stronger.

That frontrunner doesn't weigh much at all. To be honest, changing from a 260LB coils to a 220LB coil won't make a massive difference. It's just a combo of shocks and coils that you're running that when you have no weight, it's not the greatest, but when you add weight, it probably rides really well. You could also cut some tire pressure when unloaded to soften up the rear end.

What UCAs do you recommend?

Thanks for the info! Plan to keep the front stock so probably 300 is way to go.

C59-701V Ride Height Update

Here's some current numbers Mike, hub to bottom of fender averages out to about 24 5/8ths right now. C59-701V rear coils with rear bumper, 10 gallons of gas on the carrier, and rtt. Got a couple things in back but otherwise relatively unloaded. Tall but smooth!

How is the valving of your (GS59-705 - Twin Tube, suits 0-2" lift, softer valving for empty rear ends. 590mm extended, 355mm compressed) compared to the OME nitrochargers?

C59-302 in front, C59-505 rear:

This was asked in another thread, seemed appropriate to drop it here as well.
My outcome below (which I am very happy with...)

The approximate inch measurements are from the ground, up the center line of the wheel to the bottom edge of the fender:

Before:
front - 35 5/8 (with Bilstein's set to .85)
rear - 36 3/4

After:
front - 37.5 (Bilstein's back to 0)
rear - 38 5/8

It's softer than our 701 rear shocks, and even the 701's are softer than the OME Nitrochargers.

Hey there, Mike! I think Im about to pull the trigger on the TRD PRO Bilstein 6112 kit that was recently on clearance and would be interested in potentially getting some springs (F and R) from you guys. I have no aftermarket bumpers, mild constant weight (just normal day-to-day stuff; nothing outrageous), and would like something in the 1.5"-2.0" lift range. What do you recommend?

Full disclosure - I *might* elect to use the front springs that come with the TRD kit and get a Toytec perch spacer in lieu of swapping front springs, in which case Id only need the rears but am totally open to suggestions. Use is 98% daily driver, light-medium off-road 3-6x year.

:reddance:

Huge thanks to Kyle (Kfog375) at Treaty Oak Offroad and Dobinsons Mike at Dobinson's USA for getting me exactly what I wanted and getting it to me ASAP!!!

We will be installing it all today (including reusing my AirLift Airbags). ...now to go buy some beers for my install army.

My springs arrived Friday, these things look great in person! Huge thanks to Mike for the help and getting these to me so quickly. Will be installed in my 5100’s next week. I will say I wasn’t sure about the teal, but they look pretty awesome.

We have no front spring options just yet for the 6112's. We are making a 1" lifted TRD Pro coil, but those have a lighter rate than what comes with the 6112's.

For rear coils, just check post #1 and choose the appropriate height and weight coil.

We're working on some other coils for those 6112's, but have to do R&D and testing first before I share that info.

Finally got out to properly test out my Dobinsons setup off-road (I don't wheel in the snow - too many heart-stopping moments over the years). I've been very happy on road - I can see where some might think it too firm for a mall crawler but I've had lots of stiffly sprung sports cars so I like it. Way less body roll and dive, firm but smooth. But off-road they were AWESOME. Over big rocks there's way less swaying around and when there are not rocks and just washboard and pot holes the Dobinsons suspension just smooths everything right out. We were just floating along chasing side-by-sides down the trail. We're SUPER happy with how it performed.

Weight in the truck were me and my son (we both go about a buck seventy-five), a winch on a hidden mount up front, recovery gear and 160lbs worth of dogs in the rear.

Front: C59-300, GS59-700
Rear: C59-599, GS59-701

Here's a picture so people can gauge the "stance". ;-)

Hahaha, that looks like every trail I've been on in Colorado!!

Thanks for the review. The faster you go, the better it is!!!

So I currently have the 2" Icon coil springs in the rear and it didn't yield the amount of lift I wanted. I have an SR5 w/ the 3rd row. Not sure if that has to anything to do with the height being less than I wanted. What spring do you recommend? I am thinking of adding a wilco spare tire hitch as well.

3rd row can cost about 1/4" of lift height on our coils, so that may have something to do with it, plus your roof rack.

What height do you want to be at? Just need to choose a coil based on desired lift height and the constant load. C59-325 are 2.0" with 3rd row, and 2.25" without any weight.
