It's not necessarily suggested, it's an option for you. Some people think the stock ride is firm up front, so we made a comfort option. We do this across to some land cruisers too.

If you want 2.5", don't buy 3" coils

I know at 2.5 most people have trouble with getting enough caster on stock UCA's, so that'd be my only reason to choose 2.5" over 3".

You're right. I'll add some notes about the UCA recommendation for 2.5"+ of lift.

Also, with too much lift, the stock UCA's could contact the spring. I forgot about that little tidbit...

Is there any chance to choose coil color? Like as in... black? Or grey/silver?

If I was to put together a group buy with 10 full kits of the same part numbers front and back, I could do the coils in a different color, but it wouldn't happen very quickly. It would be more or less so that people could get something different, but would definitely take about 3 months to deliver, if not longer (based on our container delivery schedule). Shocks would still be yellow.

Dobinsons does private label coils for many different companies, hence all the spec and color options when making them.

Installed Dobinson rear coils today, these are the 3" progressive, 400lb constant load coils. These replaced a pair of AllPro 3.5" coils which were nice when unloaded but sagged too much for me when loaded. I kind of knew this going into the Allpro's but at the time it was the best option for me. These coils are TALL, image shows the 3.5" coils for comparison so you can see what I'm talking about. Had to drop the sway bar and pull the upper control arms to get them in.

I'm currently running a 4x4labs rear bumper, sliders, Demello winch bumper, 9500lb winch, aluminum skids, and fridge. Expo weight includes a rtt, extra fuel, and the standard camp kit. Went on a quick trip to let the coils settle in place and checked the new ride height. I park on a slight sideslope.

Driver Before/After: 41 to 40-13/16, loss of 3/16th of an inch
Passenger Before/After: 40-3/16 to 40-3/16, no change

Ride on the road is great, feels like there's a little less body roll out back but still very smooth, especially considering how heavy the coils are. Less jarring than the OME coils on my buddies gx (not sure what rate they are). Real test will be once I have the chance to load it up with gear. So far I'm pretty happy with these!

I have been waiting to give my opinion so everything could settle in a little. I was a bit concerned at first because the rear springs were so sprung. It was like an unloaded 1ton LOL.

I called mike and he told me to add some weight and go bomb around, so I had a few guys from work like in like a clown car. This worked very well


I am extremely happy with this setup now. It's very well behaved and comfortably solid. The shocks absorb the ridiculously bad roads here and potholes. Speed bumps are nothing.

I look forward to a long life out of this setup. I soaked it down with fluid film to give them a chance seeing as winter is still going strong.

This is a very good option for people wanting a middle ground type suspension.

Yeah, lots more free height when standing on the ground compared to the non-variable rate coils. I'm glad the lift height was virtually unchanged. You'll really see the benefit of these coils when you load up!!!

The old coils are AllPro and the rear shocks are Radflo, 2.5" body. Had Metaltech build them for me for the 3+ inch rear coils, essentially an extended travel rear that works with factory bumpstops.

Got my setup (in sig) done up this weekend. Install was pain being solo and not having right tools but it's done. Can't give impressions as I haven't driven it out of the driveway yet. Need to get alignment tomorrow. So far looks awesome!!

Many of y'all don't like the color but it's subtle enough that it compliments the grey perfectly to me.

The rear springs where the hard part for me. I had to remove everything to get them in. Much taller than stock. (2" lift)

My alignment guy got me 3.5 with the SPC UCAs. Very happy with the setup

And yes, the colors don't bother me at all.

KDSS gave me hell up front. I spent several hours just getting the damn bar back on to the LCA. Rears took me an hour tops!
