Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

anyone running the KDSS rear coils?
C59-729 - 600-800LB super ridiculous heavy rear load weight, 2" lift, offset height coils (similar to C59-329). 430/415mm, 19mm wire, 333LB

Trying to install new springs that are taller than factory

Looking at the pics the brake lines and ABS line are fully extended. The springs are 4" taller than factory. Not sure the best way to get them in. I've tried, but to afraid to over extend the lines by pushing the axle down. Any suggestions would be great!!

There are some brackets holding the hoses and abs lines the frame and/or axle (can't recall which is which) that can be unbolted to give a little more clearance, have you loosened these? Which coils are they?

If you have a coil compressor that helps...pry bars also help. Install one side at a time, by jacking up on end of the axle.

This too. Sorry I neverr asked, have you installed coils before?

I put extended brake hoses on before my suspension but my abs lines where still tricky. I had to remove sway bar links and upper control arms (one at a time) to get my coils in. Patience with the angles, a floor jack, jack stands, and buddy are all helpful if not necessary. The progressive nature of these coils makes them challenging to install but worth it for the performance in my opinion. I have their heaviest load option progressive, non-kdss.

Putting my rear coils in brought tears to my eyes and some bloody knuckles. It took me at least 6 solid hours doing it. Like everyone has said previous, try one side at a time, coil compressor, pry bar, floor jack, extra set of hands. Just looking at your pics made me start sweating and gave me heart palpitations....

Marined, how do you like the ride with the 726 coils?

Love the ride. It is a big difference from the stock set-up. I have a lot a weight added on my truck and the heavy load suspension upgrade makes the ride very comfortable. No more nose diving, and better handling on the road and off road.

I hate to even suggest dangerous ideas - but... a couple ratchet straps can save a lot of effort on these installs. Make sure you don't go around the end coil on either end or you'll never get the strap back out.

Be safe and careful!

Install Notes

I just checked my notes. For the c59-677v we disconnected shocks, sway bar links, and abs tabs. I replaced the track bar at the same time so that was off too. A friend helped push down on the axle to get the coils in.

For c59-701v we also disconnected upper and lower control arms, I recall now that the lower control arms limit down travel because they contact the axle housing. We tried the previous method but got tired of struggling with it, aligning links back up can be a little annoying but it makes coil install a breeze. Be sure you're familiar with how everything works, you don't want an axle getting away from you, obviously whatever you do don't do anything you're uncomfortable with. We had probably 5x jack stands, a floor rack, and a scissor jack out.

As far as I know these are among the two stiffest and tallest coils they make, it'd seem that anything lower in the spectrum could be installed without too much hassle, although they are taller than non-progressive coils so just recognize that. Unbolting at least one control arm will free things up quite a bit. Hope that helps.

At 9000 miles we ditched the stock SR5 suspension for a Dobinsons kit and it's the best thing I've done! Ride and handling feel much more controlled and the nose dive under braking is 90+% gone!
C59-302 / Gs59-574 / C59-325 / Gs59-705 and diff drop
Fuel Anza 20x9 wheels, 275/60/20 BFG all terrains.

Reminds me of that photo a few years back of "is this dress black and green or blue and something... hahhaa

First photo, your truck looks black. 2nd it looks blue!!

That combo with those wheels looks really great!! Nice truck.

Getting ready to pull the trigger on a Dobinsons set up for my new 2017. I've been through the thread, but can't find a picture of exactly what I'm planning.

If you have it, can someone post a picture of a 5th gen with C59-300 in the front and C59-599 in the rear - with a stock size tire. I'm probably going with Dobinsons struts and shocks and then Cooper AT3s in stock size.

The pic may be out there already without the tire size mentioned.

Thanks and cheers.

I can't make up my mind!

My situation: 2016 TEP w/KDSS. Daily Driver. Prefer to keep OEM UCA, and maintain reasonable CV angles. Current added weight Shrockworks Sliders @ ~65 lbs each. C4 Fab. Lo-Pro Bumper on order @ ~75 lbs. Will also add a winch @ ~60 lbs. I need to offset added weight, and would like to gain approx. 1.75" - 2.25" over stock, not looking to level, but certainly don't want to add any rake. I find myself looking at specs, photos, and builds almost daily, and am no where closer to making up my mind on what Dobinson's set up is right for me. The combos that I keep looking at are:

Option A
Front:
C59-302 - 100-220LBS heavy load front weight, 2" lift / Stock front end load, 2.5" lift 395/395mm, 17mm wire, 586LB paired with GS59-700 - Twin Tube, fixed mount (not adjustable), suits 0-2" lift
Rear:
C59-725 - Stock rear end, 1.75" lift with 3rd row, 2" without, offset height coils for KDSS leveling (similar to C59-325). 430/415mm, 17mm wire, 228LB paired with GS59-701 - Twin Tube, suits 0-2" lift.

Option B
Front:
C59-724 - Stock front end load, 1.75" lift. 375/370mm, 18mm wire, 730LB w/ same strut
Rear:
C59-723 - Stock rear end, 1.25" to 1.5" lift, offset height coils for KDSS leveling. 420/405mm, 17mm wire, 228LB w/ same shock

Any thoughts? Opinions? Input? Let me know if there are any advantages to one or the other, or perhaps something that I am overlooking.

Really like the stance. Great job, I’m considering this lift for the wife’s 2017 TRD OR.

So far so good. Took this pic the night before camping. So not fully loaded. Full time weight on car is just roof rack/fridge/sliders.

Loaded up the car for camping a week back. Def the reverse rake was gone when fully loaded. . Car was almost leveled with all the weight in the back and roof rack.

The ride is fine. I haven't really noticed anything different. I came from a really stuff suspension vehicle so currently rides perfect.

Front is all stock with stock tires.

I don't know what size tires they're running, but these are from guys here on the forum. Running C59-300 and C59-599
