Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

Yep. I found a shop today about 5 miles away. They will assemble the coilovers and I'll install in my truck from there. I tried two different spring compressors from nearby auto parts stores, and neither were big enough> LOL. I'll post pics once the lift is installed.

The shop assembled the coilovers today. Is it me or did they over-tighten the shocks? It looks like there is a lot of thread showing. However we used new KRB top hats so the inside bushing may have been slightly shorter than the Dobinsons inner bushing. We used the outer (top) bushing from the Dobbies kit.

Other than that, do they look assembled properly?

Yes it looks right from these angles. The top nut gets tightened until it bottoms out on the threads of the strut stud. Once in the car with weight on it, the bushings will decompress under the vehicle weight some.

I just swapped out my 300 springs for 314s (and reused the 574 extended travel shocks), and simultaneously swapped out the OEM top hats/bushings for KYB bushings and noted the same thing, there is definitely more threaded portion of the shock that is visible, however, clearance above the installed shock piston is the same

Looks just like my Dobinsons parts that have been installed for a few months. I went with their black coils, but otherwise the same as yours.

I don't recall why, but the 574 struts have a longer stud than the 700's, so a little more ends up sticking out. The top nut gets bottomed out at the bottom threads of the stud, once the bushings are properly compressed, so you can always tell when to stop - it won't tighten anymore.

Lift is finally on! Just over 2.5” in front and over 1.5” in rear but it will settle I’m sure. Tomorrow the shop will realign. I’ll try to get more than 3* of caster if it will take it. A huge thank you to Mike @DobinsonsUSA for the advice along the way.

Just finished realignment. They could only get 2.4* of caster on passenger side and 2.9* on drivers side. Other than that pretty good. Let’s see how she handles on the highway. I assume this may impact my tire wear. Maybe UCA’s later.

How do you like the stance? I am heading in the same direction 2.5/1.5 but will also add Dobinson UCAs so I can get a bit more caster and possibly fit 295s without a BMC.

Here's a possibly stupid question - is there a concern with different caster on the front? I was thinking you always wanted to get them the same

I like the stance but hoping for a bit more rake. We’ll see after they settle especially in the front. I don’t know about the caster. The technician said it’s within a range. Sounds too gray for me. Haha.

What springs did you go with?

Finally got around to taking a photo after letting the new front springs settle for about a week (~1,000mi).

The upper photo is C59-300 springs w/ GS59-574 extended travel struts up front, and C59-327 springs w/ GS59-701 shocks in the rear

The lower photo is all of the same, but with C59-314 springs in the front.

Mods are in the signature, but weight adders are -
Front: Aluminum IFS/Trans/T-Case Skids; Warn slimline bumper, Smittybilt X2O winch w/ synthetic line, C4 battery tray w/ Group 48 second battery
Rear/Both: Steel sliders, LFD Full length steel roof rack(w/ ARB Awning, front lightbar, side lights, rear lights), DIY 3/4" Birch Plywood storage box w/ Front Runner boxes (~120lb), ARB 50Qt fridge on DFG slide.

I still think I'm a bit over-sprung on the rear, but after a gas tank skid and rear bumper w/ swing-outs I'm sure it won't be. Loaded for a trip (camping gear, hi-lift, traction boards, ground tent, etc) doesn't really lower the rear ride height at all.

@jrfordlandia

From your pics it looks like there is a reverse rake. I have the same setup on order (delayed because of the color). Is there a reverse rake? I was hoping to still maintain a slight rake of about .5” or so.

Thanks!

Nope. It settled nicely. Slight forward rake about 1” taller in the rear now.
